About this file

Written by GovTribe AI ·

This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA's requirement for lightning data from a vendor for the period May 27th, 2025, through May 26th, 2026. The procurement is for real-time and archived continental US lightning data, including cloud-to-ground stroke-level and incloud lightning data, to be used by the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Earth Science Office (ST11) and the MSFC Propulsion Test Area. The primary objectives are to support lightning safety for Center Operations and enable scientific research on storm characteristics, severe weather identification, wildfires, and electrified snowfall. The data will be transmitted via Internet Communications Systems, with no NASA archiving planned for real-time data.

STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)

Lightning Data: Provide real-time and archived continental US lightning data (cloud-to-ground stroke-level and incloud lightning) and archived continental US lightning data (cloud-to-ground and incloud flash-level data), for the period May 27th, 2025, through May 26th, 2026. The NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Earth Science Office, ST11 (i.e., the NSSTC Lightning Group) shall have unlimited access to the lightning data. The MSFC Propulsion Test Area shall have unlimited access to the real-time CONUS data. Both ST11 and the MSFC Propulsion Test Area are participating in this procurement. The data will be used for lightning safety for Center Operations and process studies storms and individual lightning flashes to unlock their physical characteristics and apply this knowledge toward scientific techniques used in severe and hazardous weather identification (severe weather, wildfires, electrified snowfall).

Communication Method to be used to receive data: Internet Communications Systems.

Agency Archiving and Redistribution Plans: No NASA archiving is planned for the Real-Time Data.
