About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) that outlines the requirements for partial discharge testing of electrically insulating materials and coatings created at the NASA Glenn Research Center. The testing will determine the partial discharge inception voltage (PDIV) for these samples, which is critical information for applications like electric aircraft propulsion. The SOW specifies that the testing should be done using a cylinder-plain configured electrode setup with a 60Hz signal. Two sets of samples are required: thermally aged polymer samples (approximately 250mm x 500mm, 0.2-0.3mm thick, with 3-4 samples and 5-6 repeats each) and ceramic coated metal substrate samples (approximately 750mm x 750mm, 0.150-0.500mm thick, with 3-4 samples and 5-6 repeats each). The output of the testing will be a final report including the PDIV values and patterns. This SOW is related to a federal contract opportunity with Solicitation Number 80NSSC24872863Q, issued by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Shared Services Center.

Partial discharge testing statement of work
This request is to procure partial discharge testing for coupon samples of electrically insulating materials and coatings created at the NASA Glenn research center. Partial discharge testing determines the partial discharge inception voltage (PDIV) for electrically insulating samples. Knowledge of this material characteristic is particularly critical for applications like electric aircraft propulsion, where knowledge of this characteristic can determine the applicability of a material to an application.
Specifics of the testing:
• PDIV values due to surface discharges are desired as are characteristics of up to 1.5 X PDIV (if possible)
• Testing should be done with a cylinder-plain configured electrodes., utilizing a 60Hz signal
• A final report including PDIV values and patterns will the output
Sample sets
• Set 1: Thermally aged polymer samples o ~250mmx500mm, 0.2-0.3mm thick o 3-4 samples with 5-6 repeats of each sample (total of 20),
• Set 2: Ceramic coated on a metal substrate o ~750 mm x 750 mm, 0.150-0.500 mm thick.
o 3-4 samples with 5-6 repeats of each sample. (total of 20)
