1.0 Scope
NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center is in the market to purchase a Scanning Pulsed Coherent Doppler Lidar to measure 3-D winds of the boundary layer and the middle troposphere. This system will be used to sample the many levels of the atmosphere for determining winds along line of site to a complete over the head hemisphere about the lidar. NASA expects the lidar to be plug and play or as near to plug and play as possible. The lidar is expected to be placed in the field to provide near real time atmospheric data for many of the UAS projects currently underway or planned for the near future. The lidar utilizes an eye safe 1.5 um laser to scatter off aerosols to determine air movement and therefore to determine winds. The lidar must be durable to withstand the Edwards AFB environment and with minimal maintenance in the field.
2.0 Requirements
The lidar must be a pulsed laser at 1.54 micros and be eye safe (class 1M according to IEC 60825-1:2014).
Lidar must be able to operate at Edwards, AFB climatology min and max temperatures (Between 2 to 113F) Lidar power must be 100-240Vac and 50-60 Hertz Lidar must be able to scan 0-360 degrees in azimuth with a minimum 1.0 degree increment Lidar must be able to scan from -10 to 190 degrees in elevation with a minimum 1.0 degree increment.
Lidar must have a minimum range of 10 to 14 km depending on dwell time.
Lidar must be able to tune dwell time between 0.1 and 10 secs to change the length of each range gate.
Lidar must be able to provide up to 300 range gates Lidar scanning speed up to 30 deg/sec for quick wide angle scans Lidar must be portable Lidar must be able to fit in the back of a pickup truck for transport or towed with its own trailer.
Lidar system must include vendor software to view, modify and save data for future use.
Lidar system must include training.
3.0 Deliverables
· System must be delivered to NASA Armstrong and must be powered up prior to acceptance.
· Contractor must deliver a fully functioning plug and play Lidar
· Contractor must provide training to Armstrong personnel
· System can be either new or refurbished.
· System must come with full documentation, user’s manual and backup software.
· System must be delivered by December 2019.
4.0 Travel
Travel for training and setup must be included in the final price. Any further need for travel will be addressed on a case by case basis.
