Specific Curriculum:
1.Ionscan 400B Tech Course
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES
The IONSCAN 400B is a highly sensitive, analytical instrument that uses Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) technology to detect and accurately identify trace residues of a wide variety of narcotic and explosive substances. The equipment can be set up to identify either narcotics or explosives, but not both at the same time. For example, airports would typically use the IONSCAN 400B to search for traces of explosives whereas detention facilities may use the IONSCAN 400B to search for traces of narcotics.
The IONSCAN 400B Technical course is intended to provide the knowledge and skills needed to properly and safely service, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and perform preventive maintenance for one’s unit(s). The course introduces and teaches the use of the Technical Manual for the IONSCAN 400B. This is the reference resource and authoritative text for all participant hands-on practice during the course and out in the field.
The topics that will be covered in the Technical course are:
Safety considerations Overview Operation Preventive maintenance Instrument Manager software System test and alignment Troubleshooting
Through IONSCAN 400B Technical Training, each participant will gain practical, hands-on experience in service skills and activities. Participants diagnose real-world scenarios using the equipment itself, and then make the necessary adjustments or repairs, thus providing a useful foundation of technical skills.
EQUIPMENT AND MODELS
Successful completion of this course will certify a technician to service the following equipment models:
IONSCAN 400B
TARGET AUDIENCE
Service Technicians
CERTIFICATE
This certificate is valid for one (1) year.
Annual recertification is required to maintain authorization to service the equipment model(s) noted above. Without recertification, this authorization is void.
This certificate authorizes the person listed to service the noted equipment of his/her company only. It does not sanction one as an authorized service provider unless in the employment of Smiths Detection or an Authorized Representative at the time the service is conducted.
COURSE CREDIT
Successful completion of this course requires:
Full attendance Demonstration of practical skills Passing exam score of 80% or higher
Note: Up to two (2) retests permitted before participants will need to retake the course.
