BACKGROUND
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is responsible for the administration of immigration and naturalization adjudication functions of the federal government, providing immigration services and has the authority to administer the Oath of Allegiance in San Francisco. USCIS provides efficient and customer-oriented immigration services, benefits and information that enhance and promote opportunities for immigrant participation in the naturalization process. USCIS also conducts timely processing of immigration benefits and develops seamless, IT supported adjudication processes.
Amongst other services, the San Francisco District and Field Offices maintain a close liaison with the community. The Community Relations Officer and Congressional Officer provide outreach events in the community, keeping the public up to date with immigration services that the office offers.
The District and Field Office perform Outreach, Congressional and Consular Office visits on a monthly basis in keeping ties within the community that fall into the jurisdiction of the San Francisco District. The Field Office conducts the adjudication of immigration applications and then does oath ceremonies twice a month, naturalizing approximately 3,000 citizens or 36,000 per year.
