In Memoriam

From this area, on September 11, 2001, midshipmen, faculty and staff of the

United States Merchant Marine Academy watched the deadly events of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center unfold. The twin towers, damaged and afire, could be clearly viewed from this advantage point, until one, and then the other, vanished in a swirl of smoke. For the next nine days, 144 members of the

Academy community, operating nine vessels in New York Harbor, assisted

In the emergency response to this unprecedented assault.

among the thousands who perished on September 11 were two graduates

Of the Academy:

Robert Colin, Class of 1974, and Gilbert Granados, Class of 1975.

We will forever remember these Kings Pointers and all the innocent victims of the cruel terrorism visited upon America on 9-11.
