About this file

This document is a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) issued by the Montana Office of State Public Defender (OPD) for contract attorneys to provide legal representation in criminal and civil matters. The solicitation, numbered OPD-RFP/RFQ-2019-0018, was opened on 9/20/2018 and has an unusually long closing date of 9/20/2099, with a commodity code for Professional Services - Legal Services. Attorneys interested in becoming Contract Public Defenders are required to submit several documents, including a fillable PDF form, current resume, writing sample (appellate brief for appellate case consideration), proof of professional liability insurance, and the most recent Continuing Legal Education (CLE) transcript.

The RFQ does not specify specific pricing terms, funding sources, or contract amounts. The solicitation appears to be an ongoing process for building a pool of qualified contract attorneys who can be appointed to represent clients in various legal matters throughout the state of Montana. Interested attorneys must have an active or recently expired Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with OPD and meet the documentation requirements outlined in the six required questions. The contact for this solicitation is Emily Copeland, who can be reached at Emily.Copeland@mt.gov or by phone at +1 406-523-5169.
