CONDITIONS EXISTING, Work Requested
It was discovered that the port anchor windlass would not release the anchor or disengage the gypsy head. The port anchor would fall if the anchor was assisted manually by walking it out of the pocket. In the past, it had to be walked out completely, then returned to the pocket, before it could be released to let fall. S/F cleaned and re-greased the equipment until fresh grease was produced from fittings per product line guidance and IAW depot level MPC. Immediately after that maintenance, the gypsy head moved freely in both directions. Additional note: S/F had trouble disengaging the handle within upper Bosn stores indicating binding issues.

During line to power training it was discovered that the port gypsy head wouldn’t disengage from the wildcat portion of the anchor windlass again. S/F was able to disengage the head from the wildcat by exercising the handle within upper Bosn stores for approximately a half an hour.

Requesting contractor come on board and observe Ship’s Force operate the port anchor windlass and wildcat operation. Following the operation, we request that the windlass be troubleshot/open/inspect to determine the failure and submit a CFR for windlass/wildcat repair.
