Introduction – the FSU advantage

Fayetteville State University is a historically black university founded in 1867, and is the second oldest state supported school in North Carolina. The student body, faculty, and staff today rank among the nation's most diverse campus communities. With program expansion, the university has strong undergraduate and graduate programs in teacher education, the arts and sciences, health professions, business and economics, and is developing programs in unique and emerging fields. Many of the University’s degree programs are ranked as among the best values in the nation. FSU has a tradition of leveraging its academic excellence, in collaboration with the

Fayetteville/Fort Bragg-Pope Army Airfield community, to meet the needs of stakeholders throughout North Carolina.

Our proximity to Fort Bragg has afforded us many decades of experience working with federal employees in the Department of Defense and beyond. Currently 25% of our students have a military affiliation and we are highly adept at serving their needs both at home and abroad, including down range in locations such as Afghanistan and Iraq. While many soldiers use tuition assistance and the GI bill to earn academic credit, we have also developed a capability to deliver mission-oriented training and consulting to military and civilian populations in our region.

Recent examples include: cyber security and project management training for the JFK Special

Warfare Center and School, social work training with Fort Sam Houston, articulation agreements with the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU), military spouse career advancement programs, and business and economic development training for civil affairs units in the US

Army Special Operations Command (USASOC). In addition to the Department of Defense, we have also had significant engagements with the City of Fayetteville, Cumberland County, the US

Department of Agriculture, and the US Department of Commerce. Our engagements have been characterized by quality, affordability, responsiveness, flexibility, diversity, and technological reach.

We invite you to contact the Fayetteville State University Office of Customized Training and

Technical Assistance to discuss your particular needs. This Office draws upon deep faculty and staff expertise across the disciplines listed below to serve specialized training and research needs of government agencies and business enterprises. The program director, Mr. Greg McElveen, can be reached at 910-242-3870 or gmcelvee@uncfsu.edu.
