1
5.23.19
5.29.19
Section 22 66 00 2.1.B. Concern over the use of mechanical joints on the polypropylene acid waste piping and that this can be a big maintenance item because you have to periodically tighten them which can be hard if there is limited access clearance for this reason, the industry standard has become electro fused,
All of this piping will be overhead in a mechanical room. The mechanical room is located directly below the lab space. Whether the connection is an Orion type, or screw type, both will be easily accessible in the case tightening is required. Space is not an issue.
2
5.23.19
5.29.19
Section 22 66 00 3.6.B. The vendor said that no extruded polypropylene manufacturers recommend air testing because of the potential for catastrophic failure.
We resolved this by looking at another vendor’s website where they list it as an acceptable method, but include additional precautions that should be made. We could add those precautions to the spec if you would like.
3
5.30.19
5.30.19
We would like to propose the following Tennant Coatings products as an equal/and or performance equal to the products specified.
Florock Products will work as an equal substitute.
4
5.30.19
5.30.19
We would like to propose the following Florock products as an equal/and or performance equal to the products specified.
Tennant Coatings Inc. will work as an equal substitute.
5
6.6.19
Volume 1 – Factor 4 – Past Performance – Relevant Projects. Is it possible to amend the requirement to projects that are 50% percent complete or great to account for interim CPARS on those projects. The VA in VISN 23 does not have many projects in the last 5 years that are over that amount. We are asking for consideration to lower the 3 million to 2 million and decrease the 100% complete to possibly 50%
I’ll agree to any of the following:

1. $3M at 50% completion or more

2. $2M at 100% or substantial completion

6
6.6.19
Volume 1 – Factor 1 – Bullet point 2. – If any of the structure were to be disturbed not by negligence but by needs to complete any of the work. Is there a process on how to repair or replace any of that area?
The original front entrance is not to be touched or damaged. Any construction difficulties and challenges will need to be discussed with the COR.
7
6.6.19
Can the VA provide load calculations for where the addition is going. We are asking this to determine the amount of materials and equipment storage that can be on that structure?
At this moment, no. Once awarded, the VA and contractor can work with the AE to get some load values on the existing roof.
8
6.6.19
Does the VA have an existing rebar layout from that existing building roof. This would be helpful for determining whether we will need to x ray for rebar in that area where the new structure is going.
From my review of the 84 drawing set, I am struggling to find if rebar was used in the poured waffle ceiling or not. However, there are several locations where clips, pipe hangers, and other structural devices have been anchored into the waffle ceiling, so I would account for the need to x-ray the slab.
9
6.11.19
6.13.19
Work is currently being performed on the Connect New Steam Line, Building 5 project at the Sioux Falls VAMC. There are portions of the Lab Addition project that are being completed in the new steam line project. The documents for the Lab addition ask for the work to be included in the base bid and have a deduct alternate to remove the work. If the work is already in progress wouldn’t it be easier to just remove that work from the lab addition bid?
The work on the steam line installation is not complete. The VA design manual requires that the VA have a completely independent design, accounting for all costs and installations. Even though it appears that the VA will not need to install the steam line under the Lab Addition project, the VA must still account for it until the other project is completely finished. Upon completion of the Connect New Steam Line project, the VA may request a credit to remove the applicable work from the Lab Addition project.
10
6.12.19
6.13.19
the Chilled water and Heating water are specified as weld only, will groove system be allowed
No pro-press is allowed. Soldered joints only.

6.17.18
6.17.19
There appears to be no Specs on 12 24 21 Lightproof Shades. Please clarify.
This spec was removed from the set, but it appears was forgotten to be removed from the table of contents. Disregard this section as it is not required.

6.17.18
6.18.19
“The doors for 2086, 2164, 2166 do not have hardware groups called out on the door schedule, please verify what groups should be used?”
Doors 2164 and 2166 are temp construction doors in the temp construction barriers (shown on sheets GC011 &GC012), hardware and keying should be as listed in the spec for those doors. They should not have been shown on the schedule. An updated spec has been provided reflecting the change.

2. FloroCrete Cove Mortar: Combine FloroCrete Cove Component A and Component B. Blend together with a “mudd mixer” for 30 to 60 seconds. Add Part C (dry material) to A and B and mix again for 60 seconds, making sure aggregate is thoroughly wetted out. Scrape down sides and bottom of container with a flat or straight edge trowel to assure complete mixing (a mortar mixer may be used to combine component C with the premixed component A and B). Then, immediately place mixture onto area to be coved. Using a steel trowel, hang the material on the vertical of the cove. Strike the hung material with a coving trowel to shape and close the surface. Be sure to MIX FULL KITS.

Temperature will affect mixing. Therefore, mix when air temperature is between 50° F and 80° F (10° to 26° C).

9/15

1120 W Exchange Ave.• Chicago, IL 60609 • (800) 356-7625 • www.florock.net

Limitations:

FloroCrete Cove is not to be applied in temperatures below 45° F (7o C) or above 85° F (29o C), or when relative humidity is greater than 85%. Apply only to dry, properly prepared, uncoated, reinforced concrete floor slabs that have a moisture content of less than 10%. Do not apply if air temperature and/or surface temperature are at or below dew point. During application, protect substrate from exposure to water leakage or condensation from pipes. Do not feather-edge, do not hand-mix material and do not apply to cracked or unsound substrates.

Product is for vertical and horizontal use on dry concrete surfaces only.

Cure Time:

The chemical curing of FloroCrete Cove is affected by temperature. At 70° F (21o C) curing temperature, expect to walk on the floor in 12 hours, with full traffic after 24 hours. At 45° F (7o C) curing temperature, allowing foot traffic may take 48 hours or longer. It is therefore imperative that air and substrate temperatures be kept above 70° F (21o C) for best cure.

Maintenance:

FloroCrete floors can be maintained by using a stiff mechanical brush and/or hot pressure washer or steam cleaner. Surfactant-type detergents or degreasers may be used;

however, avoid products containing Phenol, as this may damage color. Though FloroCrete is highly chemical resistant, a test patch is recommended prior to using any harsh cleaners.

Please read material safety data before using product.

FloroGel Epoxy Patch Kit

Product Description: FloroGel is a highly thixotropic, 100% solids epoxy gel that is ideal for quickly and conveniently patching “bug holes”, cracks, divets and other minor deformities in concrete slabs. Used alone for periodic concrete maintenance, or under other Florock Systems as part of the slab preparation process, this epoxy exhibits superior compressive strength and wear properties with no shrinkage.

Typical Uses, Applications: FloroGel is ideal for use in facilities that limit the use of solvents and fine, loose silica. Unlike similar products on the market, the addition of separate thickening powders, flours or silicas is unnecessary. The two liquid components, when properly blended, form a ready-to-use gel that is easy to apply with a spatula, spackle knife or flat trowel.

FloroGel may be installed over many existing coatings that are well-bonded and properly prepared. A Test Patch should be installed and approved prior to application and used as the job standard.

Packaging: FloroGel is available in 4 Kit Cases.

Each Kit yields 0.8 gallons of blended gel, so each case will yield 3.2 gallons.

Storage: All containers should be stored at 40° F to 95° F and be kept tightly sealed and out of direct sunlight.

Note: FloroGel should not be applied when floor temperature is above 90° F or below 55° F, or when within 5° F of the dew point.

Instructions for Use:

1. Prepare surface in accordance with Preparation of Concrete Section of the Florock Catalog. Product is self-priming and requires no separate primer.

2. After substrate has dried, pour FloroGel Part B into larger can of Part A and blend very well using paint stick or mixer.

3. Scoop gel onto surface to be filled. Spread with spatula, spackle knife or flat trowel. Depending upon thickness applied, allow 1-6 hours cure time at 70˚ F.

Proceed with foot traffic or subsequent coats of Florock System, in accordance with product data sheets.

4.5 Gallon Over Pack

• Optional Universal Colorant 2-4 qts per kit for pigmented FloroWear (Consult colorant usage charts.)

FloroWear 7100 Application: FloroWear 7100 must be applied over smooth Floropoxy Primer. If the surface is not smooth, additional applications of Floropoxy are necessary. Only one finish coat is required.

Note: Floropoxy should not be applied when floor temperature is above 90° F or below 55° F, or when within 5° F of the dew point.

1. Primer Application: Once surface preparation is complete, apply Floropoxy 4700 primer to the concrete floor. In a clean, dry container, blend 3 parts by volume of component A and 1 part by volume of component B. Mix only the amount that can be applied during the working time.

Mix thoroughly for 3-5 minutes, using a low speed mechanical mixer. Transfer the mixture from the container to a transport container. Remix and pour entire mix from the transport container onto floor immediately. Retaining mixture in the bucket will shorten the pot life. Using a 1/8” V notched squeegee, apply primer at a rate of 160 SF/gallon. Backroll with a 3/8” nap roller immediately after spreading.

Note: The cure time will vary with conditions. Allow a minimum of 4 hours and a maximum of 24 hours before next step.

IMPORTANT: Flooring surface must be smooth before proceeding with FloroWear 7100. Reapply Floropoxy 4700 Primer as necessary to create a smooth surface.

2. FloroWear 7100 Application: Combine the entire contents of parts A and B.

Blend well using a low speed mechanical mixer, then continue mixing and add part C. If colorant is desired, add 2-4 qts. of Florock Universal Colorant and remix for approximately 3-5 minutes (See Color Usage Chart).

FloroWear 7100

High Traffic System

Apply material at an approximate rate of 500 to 525 square feet per gallon to achieve 2.9 to 3.0 wet mils, using a solvent-resistant, medium nap roller out of a roller pan. If skid resistance is desired, broadcast #36, #60 or #80 White Aluminum Oxide into the coat at a rate of 3-6 lbs per 1000 SF and backroll. Excessive grit may make cleaning difficult. Take care to cross-roll product and to achieve the target spread rate. Roll out drips and blemishes immediately.

THIS MATERIAL IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR

SPRAY APPLICATIONS.

Note: DO NOT use high capacity rollers (like Wooster’s prodoo-z ). They can leave roller marks in the coating. DO USE a polyester normal capacity roller cover (3/8” nap roller). These are typically available at most hardware stores. For more details contact your Florock Representative.

Instructions for Use over Existing

1. Examine the existing coating to ensure that it is well bonded to the concrete. Any loose coating must be completely removed.

Edges where loose coating has been removed should be sanded to a feathered edge.

2. Clean the entire floor thoroughly with detergent cleaner. The surface must be free of all dirt, oils, or other contaminants.

3. After the floor has completely dried, sand the existing coating until a powdery residue is evident and all gloss is removed. Sweep or vacuum clean, and wipe with Xylene to ensure good adhesion of the new system.

Any bare concrete should be mechanically prepared and primed with Floropoxy 4700.

Note: To ensure compatibility of FloroWear 7100 with existing coating, a test patch should be approved prior to installation and used as the job standard.

Note: Do not apply moisture cure urethanes when

• Relative humidity is over 85%

• Dew Point in the area to be coated is within 5° F of the slab temperature

• Temperatures are below 55° F or above 90° F

• Substrate has passed its recoat window without re-prep

Maintenance: Sweep away dust and debris with a broom. Clean on a regular basis with a surfactant-type mild detergent. Florock floors never need waxing.

Please read Safety Data Sheets before using products.

Note: Instead of using Floropoxy 4805 Clear for the grout coat you may substitute 2-3 finish coats of Florothane MC or CR.

Surface Preparation: New concrete must have a 28 day cure, and preferably a broom swept finish, prior to coating. In the case of older concrete flooring, remove all surface oils, paint, dust and debris. Prior to coating, make sure the surface is clean, passes the MVT test and the water drop test and that all surface defects have been repaired.

Refer to the Florock “Preparation of Concrete” datasheet for more information on preparation and MVT before proceeding.

1/8” Double Broadcast FloroShop Application – Applied over smooth bare concrete

Note: Floropoxy should not be applied when floor temperature is above 90° F or below 55° F, or when within 5° F of the dew point.

1. Primer Application: Once surface preparation is complete, apply Floropoxy 4700 primer to the concrete floor. In a clean, dry container, blend 3 parts by volume of Component A and 1 part by volume of Component B. Mix only the amount that can be applied during the working time. Mix thoroughly for 3-5 minutes, using a low speed mechanical mixer. Transfer the mixture from the batch container to a transport container.

2. Pigmented System 4805 Basecoat Application: In a clean, dry container, blend 3 parts by volume of clear or pigmented resin Part A with 1 part by volume of activator Part B. Using a low speed mechanical mixer blend well for 3-5 minutes. When tinting Floropoxy 4805

Clear, add Florock Epoxy Colorant at the rate of 1 quart colorant to a 4 gallon batch of clear epoxy. Transfer mixture from batch container to transport container and remix.

Immediately pour entire mixture onto floor.

Using a 1/8” V-notched squeegee spread Floropoxy 4805 at 120 SF/gallon. Use a 3/8” roller to back-roll the coating. Allow System 4805 to completely self-level before broadcasting silica sand. Then, wearing spiked shoes, broadcast 40 to 100 mesh silica sand into still wet basecoat. Continue broadcasting silica sand until all liquid is filled and there are no apparent wet spots.

Allow sufficient cure time until material is cured hard enough to walk on without leaving an impression in the coating.

Sweep or blow off excess quartz. Sand or screen any high areas until smooth.

Vacuum clean.

3. Repeat step 2

4. Pigmented System 4805 Grout Coat:

A grout coat of Floropoxy 4805 shall be applied within an 8-24 hour period after the basecoat application. Apply in the same manner as in step #2, figuring 120 SF/gallon.

5. Finish Coat: Florothane MC Ultra and Florothane CR may be used as a finish coat over Floropoxy 4805. In this case one coat is sufficient. Apply one coat of Florothane Topcoat.

Application over Existing Coating:

Examine the existing coating to ensure that it is well-bonded to the concrete. Any loose coating must be completely removed.

Edges where loose coating has been should be sanded to a feathered edge. Clean the entire floor thoroughly with detergent cleaner. The surface must be free of all dirt, oils, or other contaminants. Once floor has completely dried, sand the existing coating until a powdery residue is evident and all gloss is removed.
