Question 1 The RFP indicates that there will be estimated 77 cases per year.
• Independent market Research suggests the IONM volume for this site is much higher.
• Can I ask you reach out to the Medical Facility on the estimated IONM annual volume?
Answer 1 The Medical Facility confirmed that 77 cases per year is an accurate estimate based on historical contracted cases. However, there are an additional 10-15 cases per year that are handled independently.
Question 2 If 77 cases is accurate for this contract, will another IONM provider also be covering other IONM cases at this location?
Answer 2 No other known contracted providers cover these IONM services at this location.
Question 3 Can we have the site provide the volume by case log/type over the past 6 months.
Answer 3 # Spine – Included with Neuro.
# Ortho Neuro – Included with Neuro.
# Vascular - N/A.
# ENT – 3-4 per year.
# Crani – Included with Neuro.
# General Ortho – Included with Neuro.
# other – N/A.
Question 4 Qualification Criteria – These qualification requirements are for an audiologist-driven model of IONM service delivery. The audiologist-driven model is a legacy model that is only used in the San Diego area, nowhere else in the United States. The current gold standard of IONM delivery nationwide – including in VA medical centers outside Southern California – is an onsite, CNIM-certified surgical neurophysiologist (sometimes called an IONM Technologist) plus a remote neuromonitoring neurologist.
Please confirm:
• Does the incumbent vendor currently use this audiologist model?
• Do the surgeons prefer this audiologist model to the more standard delivery of care?
• Will the VA in Los Angeles reconsider and use the more standard model of care instead?
Answer 4 Yes, the audiologist model is currently used.
Yes, the surgeons prefer the audiologist model.
No, VA Los Angles will not reconsider other models.
