X x x The purpose of this amendment is to answer RFIs #11 through #28.

RFI #11: Reference the room finish schedule ceiling callouts for lavatories and shower rooms: we are directed to paint the ceilings (CP-1) and wash ceiling grid. Is the intent to paint the ceiling grid?

Answer: In all lavatories the ceiling grid is to be washed. New ceiling tile installed, an epoxy floor installed and the walls above the wall tile painted.

RFI #12: The room finish schedule calls for “P-DF-1” for the door frame on room D-102. We are unable to find a specification or definition for the finish. Please advise.

Answer: All door frames including D-102 are to be finished P-6.

RFI #13: Who will be responsible for removing/storing/reinstalling vending machines, the Government or the Contractor? If the Contractor is responsible, does that include paying any vendor (entity that owns or services the equipment) fees required to facilitate this?

Answer: Any vending machine, these are not government owned, will be moved by the vending machine owner.

RFI #14: There are many existing wall mounted items (i.e. chair rails, hand rails, bumper guards, corner guards, fire extinguisher cabinets, equipment dispensers (paper towel, soap, etc.), patient lift tracks, wayfinding signage, light fixtures, television monitors, cloths hanger racks, medical equipment, modular wall mounted office cabinets and shelving, etc.). Are all of these items to be removed for wall paint areas, or are we to paint around these items?

Answer: All chair rails, signs, fire extinguisher cabinets and other wall hangings are to remain in place except for several pieces of art that are not framed that will have to be removed. Patient lift equipment and other medical equipment are to remain in place. Wall mounted office furniture will, with the exception of the mounting rails, will have to be removed to paint and carpet.

RFI #15: The Floor Schedule drawing shows D-Wing Accent Flooring Plan. There are a number of different patterns shown on this floor plan that are not clearly identified as to what they represent. It is our assumption that the blue and white checkered patterns are the floor accent tiles. Please confirm or advise.

Answer: The checkered areas illustrated on Exhibit 5 floor plan are the locations that accent tile are to be placed.

RFI #16: Do FRP wall coverings get removed at painted areas?

Answer: All FRP wall coverings are to remain in place.

RFI #17: On the Finish Schedule, all of the lavatory rooms are labeled with two room numbers (ex. B-107/B-106A). For each of these rooms, the first room number, in this example, B-107, is not shown on the drawings. Please clarify why these rooms are indicated with two room numbers on the Finish Schedule; and confirm that if a room number listed on the Finish Schedule is not shown on the floor plans, it is not in the scope of work for this contract.

Answer: The numbering of the rooms on Exhibit 3 Floor Plans does not match up to the actual room numbering for some rooms. Room numbers on the finish tables reflect both numbers assigned to some rooms.

RFI #18: Door frames are called out for new paint, but window frames are not mentioned. Do we paint window frames?

Answer: Window frames and exterior doors are anodized aluminum and are not to be painted.

RFI #19: Rooms D-140A, D-136A, B-104A, B-136, B-140A, B-161, and B-165 are not listed on the Room Finish Schedule. Is there any work in these rooms?

Answer: Rooms B-104A and D-104A are a part of the nursing stations and are a part of the project. Rooms B-136A, B-140A, B-161, B-165, D-136A, D-140A, D-161 and 165 are not a part of this project.

RFI #20: The finish schedule calls out “RES-1” floor material in some of the rooms. This material is not defined or specified anywhere in the solicitation documents. Please clarify what “RES-1” is and provide specifications for this material. Reference the Itemized Room Finish Schedule: Please confirm that “RES-1”, “RES-2”, and “EPX-1” are all referring to the same floor material, and that this material is governed by Section 09 67 23.20 in the specifications. If this cannot be confirmed, please provide specifications for “RES-1” and “EPX-1”.

Answer: Room finish RES-1 should be EPX-1. Spec 09 67 23.20 is the specification for the epoxy floor covering for all the lavatories.

RFI #21: The Room Finish Schedule indicates work in rooms D-128, D-137, D-141, D-168, B-128, B-136 –B, B-137, B-146, and B-168. None of these rooms are shown on the drawings. Please advise.

Answer: The best description of these rooms are alcoves although they are referred to as store rooms on the finish schedules. Room D-146 can be found on Exhibit 3. This refers to rooms B-128, B-138, B-140, B-146, D-128, D-138, D-140 and D-148.

RFI #22: Please confirm that the room shown as B-140A on the drawings is the same room that the Finish Schedule labels B-141.

Answer: In the finish table for wing B the room B-141 should be B141/B140A.

RFI #23: Please confirm waterproofing on positive side for Epoxy Flooring 09 67 23.20.

Answer: Waterproofing under the Epoxy Flooring Covering must be as per manufacturer’s installation requirements to protect the floor covering from moisture.

RFI #24: Per 1.2 Statement of Bid Items, 10. Wall Paper Decorative Strip. Where is this located? What is the square footage?

Answer: In many of the patient rooms there is a decorative wall paper accent install at the wainscot level. It is approximately 12” wide and most rooms it will take approximately 48 feet of this material. Install in all patient rooms. COR to make selections from contractor’s submittals.

RFI #25: Per 1.2 Statement of Bid Items, 9. Replace wood door including all door hardware; Where is the door located? What is the size of the door? Confirm the Quantity of doors to be replaced is one, or provide a door schedule.

Answer: There are 54 doors to be replaced. All doors are 6-8 x 3-6. Install with new hinges and door kick panels (panels 24”), 2 doors have lights. Reuse existing handsets. Stain to match the door being replaced. Finish with 3 coats of satin finish.

RFI #26: Please confirm that the room shown as B-153 on the drawings is the same room that the Finish Schedule labels B-153/B-152A on the Finish Schedule.

Answer: On the finish schedule there are a number of rooms that are like B153/B-152A. That is because on the building plan the rooms are numbered one way and the number on the room signs is different.

RFI #27: Section 09 67 23.20 para 2.3 calls for zinc cove strip. We’re being told that zinc schluter is no longer available. We can get aluminum, stainless steel, or plastic. Please advise.

Answer: Plastic or aluminum are acceptable substitutes.

RFI #28: Will the VA please clarify as to whether or not the doors for both B and D wings will be needing to be replaced, repainted or will they only be removed for the phasing that the work is taking place in?

Answer: There are 13 to 14 doors to be replaced per phase. The doors are to be replaced with in each phase. While each phase is being completed the patients are being moved to rooms in the other phases. No work will reach beyond each phase so as to not impact the patients.
