Question & Answer (Q&A) For RFQ 36C25622Q0990 0002 – Hospital

Bed

Questions Answers

In reviewing the proposed RFP – there are 25 HR Beds that have exceeded life expectancy as defined by VAMC bed standards and need to be replaced but the other 85 Umano Medical Bed frames are still within the VAMC policy of life expectancy…so is there a reason to replace the Umano Medical bed frames?

Yes. The desired features of the frame and mattress work in combination for balanced microclimate, footboard/surface extension without need for additional accessories, vital sign and incontinence/moisture monitoring systems.

In the RFP, emphasis has been placed on add-on surfaces that can be used on any universal bed frame from any supplier…none of the surfaces requested are required to be built-into the frames for any reason…is this correct?

Correct. The requested surfaces are not built into the frame, however requested frames and surfaces have technology that work together.

Will the RFP be revised or extended based on surfaces and frames (not exceeding defined VAMC life expectancy) identified BY VAMC as easy to use, meeting expectancy with little downtime for repair?

No. The RFQ will not be revised.

Why is the VA replacing bed frames if they are perceived as user friendly, working fine with little to no breakdown/repair, and only a few years old; when the perceived issue is specific to surface performance with patient comfort, microclimate question, etc.…should this just be an RFP for New Surfaces?

The requested surfaces must work together with the frame using advanced technology.

Therefore, the RFQ should not have been written for new surfaces.
