Salient Characterists ENT/Neuro Microscope
General Description
The Overton Brook VA Medical Center, Shreveport, LA is requesting a surgical microscope.
It must be equally able to be utilized for spinal neurosurgical, orthopedic, and ENT. The surgical microscope must be available at a basic configuration containing the most common requested functionalities for neurosurgical use, however, it should allow for future upgrades as demands may grow. For hygienic reasons cables and video accessories must be integrated into the system. The following salient characteristics are provided:
Requirements
Clinical Applications
The surgical microscope must be suitable for neurosurgery.
The surgical microscope must be suitable for spine surgery.
Face-to-face operation must be possible with both, surgeon and assistant, in a standing position even underneath the carrier arm.
The degrees of freedom provided by the surgical microscope must allow for working in difficult to reach regions of interest, such as posterior fossa.
The surgical microscope must support endoscope assisted applications.
Optics The system must provide all apochromatic optics.
The system must provide an efficient integrated light splitting with a switchable mirror for left/right or face-to-face co-observation.
The system must provide motorized focus adjustment.
The system must provide motorized magnification adjustment.
The system must provide variable adjustment of the working distance.
The lowest working distance must be ≤ 200 mm
The largest working distance must be ≥ 500 mm The zoom ratio must be 1:6 Ratio:
The system must provide automatic focusing with 2 visible laser dots.
The system must provide 2 visible laser dots as focusing aid, when using motorized focus and/or focusing using magnetic clutches.
It must be possible to electronically adjust the depth of field.
Illumination
The system must provide a Xenon light source with daylight-like characteristics.
The maximum power of the light source must not exceed 300 Watt.
The light source must contain a second illuminant providing the same power output and daylight characteristics as backup.
The microscope’s illumination system must provide an additional light beam path to reduce shadowing in deep cavities within the field of view.
The system must display the remaining life time for each illuminant.
The system must automatically indicate defective lamps.
To protect tissue from inadvertent light exposure the system must offer respective illumination mechanisms:
• Automatic limitation of field of illumination to field of view (oculars)
• Automatic limitation of light intensity to working distance
• System information when exceeding individual light threshold
Stand
For easy maneuverability on all types of floor surfaces, the system must provide large twin castors with a diameter of at least 150 mm.
The base must provide a central brake, thus ensuring a safe and stable positioning of the system during surgery.
For protection of cables potentially lying on the floor, each castor must provide a cable deflector.
For convenient movement the base must provide a function, which allows an easy steering (at least one caster can be fixed).
For convenient positioning of the system next to the OR table, the system must provide free rotation (> 360°) around its center axis.
In case of limitations, please state.
For convenient positioning of the microscope for surgery in a seated position, the objective lens must be lowered to 1000 mm.
For convenient positioning of the microscope for surgery in a standing position (even for taller surgeons), the oculars must be raised to at least 2000 mm.
The backward tilt angle of the microscope must provide at least 135° for microscope positioning in extreme angles, still facilitating convenient operation.
The forward tilt angle of the microscope must provide at least 25° for microscope positioning in extreme angles, still facilitating convenient operation. The total tilting range must be at least 160°, ensuring a flexible microscope positioning for all applications stated above.
The system must provide a symmetric left/right swivel range.
The left and right swivel angle of the microscope must provide at least 45° for microscope positioning in extreme angles, still facilitating convenient operation.
The transport height of the system in transport position must not exceed 1900 mm.
Operation
The system must allow for programming of at least 25 user specific presets.
Surgeon and assistant must be able to see the most important system parameters, such as working distance, magnification and light intensity, within the field of view in the oculars.
The system must provide 2 programmable handgrips.
Programming of the handgrips must be user specific.
It must be possible to independently program the left and right handgrip.
Each handgrip must provide at least 4 buttons to be freely programmed per the surgeon’s needs.
For precise positioning of the microscope, it must be possible to only release dedicated magnetic brakes.
The system must provide a symmetric attachment of the handgrips, enabling the surgeon to evenly position the microscope.
In normal use, the handgrips must be in a position where they do not overhanging below lower parts of the microscope body.
The system must provide a programmable wireless footswitch.
It must be possible to program the initial zoom for each user.
It must be possible to program the initial light intensity for each user.
The system must provide electromagnetic clutches for all system axes.
The system must provide an automatic balancing of all system axes without any manual interaction or axis adjustments.
The system must provide an individual automatic balancing of stand axes and microscope axes.
The automatic balancing of the microscope must be possible in any position within the microscope’s tilt and swivel movement range.
Balancing of each configuration must be achieved without the use of additional weights.
Balancing the system must be possible during surgery.
Draping of the system must be facilitated by an automatic air vacuum.
