Appendix B Work Area Sketches

Parking Lot 10

• Mill 2-inch; clean parking lot; prepare surface to accept new 2-inch top surface asphalt; meeting existing curb apron; restripe as shown. Excess milled material is to be used in the New Parking Lot as granular fill.

• Excavate southwest corner and the small island to 15-inch depth; remove approximately 55’ of existing curb and trees; compact 11-inches of gravel into excavation; relay 2-inches of asphalt base; relay 1.5-inch top layer; maintain drainage to the swales on the west side of the lot; construct new curb along south side; See the detail for typical pavement section.

New Parking Lot and Sidewalk

New Parking Lot, Sidewalk, and Catch Basin

New parking area:

Excavate the area to a 12-inch depth in the dimensions shown; compact to 95% max density within 2% optimal moisture content; re-use the pulverized material from Parking Lot 16 and Parking Lot 10 work, lay in 4-6” lifts compact the first lift with sheep’s foot roller and a smooth or vibrating roller on succeeding layers; provide additional new crushed aggregate to bring the surface to grade providing a 1% grade sloping down to the north.

Remove 4” HDPE pipe under existing gravel roadway.

Remove 21 LF of curb from Parking Lot 17; Remove 30 LF of curb from Parking Lot 16

Provide new asphalt using 2-inch binder layer; apply tack coat; and 1.5-inch finish layer.

Paint the lot as shown.

½ *(140’+222.5’)*200’ = 36,250 SF Approximate new pavement area

6 Accessible stalls; 90 stalls

Sidewalk:

Approximate length of sidewalk is 654-feet. Provide 4-foot wide, 4-inch thick, Portland cement sidewalk as shown in the drawings and this detail. Curbs will not be present.

Catch Basin:

Provide catch basin at approximate location on the drawings (determine low point); provide piping to the existing 14-inch VCP storm drain and connection.

Miscellaneous:

Salvage the disk golf basket and return to the VA.

Parking Lot 16

• Pulverize pavement. Spoil material not needed in this lot shall be reused as gravel fill as needed in new parking areas within this project.

• Compact surface, grading the area to drain to existing catch basins.

• Provide a 2-inch asphalt base layer; tack coat and 1.5-inch asphalt wear layer; match surface to existing curb aprons. See the typical pavement section. This lot will not be typical in lower 12-inches.

• Restripe the parking lot as shown.

• Phase work to complete a portion of pavement at a time. Provide traffic cones and barriers to direct parking and pedestrians.

• Provide walking access to buildings around construction zones.

• CAUTION: There are buried telephone lines, electric lines, and storm drains below Parking Lot 16. Take precautions to protect buried utilities.

• East end of parking lot may contain concrete overlain by asphalt. Assume ±9,280 SF to be removed.
