676-19-101 Repair Asphalt Surfaces Pre-bid Questions

#1 - Parking lot 10 Q: It was discussed on the walk through with the rough condition of the existing asphalt, and the recommendation of the paver / seal coat reps. to possibly remove all asphalt, fine grade and replace with entirely new asphalt surface. Please advise if this is what the intent is.

A: Yes, the pavement is too deteriorated to salvage. The SOW is to be modified to remove asphalt, fine grade the base and place new asphalt.

#2 - New lot north of B407 Q: The entire lot pitches to the north towards an existing swale, should this swale be enlarged and regraded to accept the runoff across the entire north edge of the lot? If not, there may be impact during A: Yes. Assume an area of approximately 110' x 40' and depth of 1.5 feet with side slopes of 1V:4H.

#3 - New lot North of B407 Q: The new sidewalk that is adjacent to the drive lane to the south. Is this intended to be flush to the drive surface or does it need to be raised (curb face sidewalk 6" +/-)? Drawings call for no curbs, but curb face sidewalks keep vehicles from driving on to them.

A: Yes. Modify the SOW for the sidewalk along the road to have an elevation approximately 6" higher than the road elevation. Provide for a small ramp approximately 42" wide at the crosswalks.

#4 - New lot north of B407 Q: There is an existing fire hydrant that is to remain in the new lot. Unknown exactly where it will fall in the parking areas, but is there intent to install pipe bollards around it to protect it from damage? If so, A: Yes. Modify the SOW to include 4 bollards, approximately 6" in diameter and 4' tall, located around the fire hydrant so that the waterline feeding they hydrant is not affected. The bollards should have a

4'

#5 - New lot north of B407 Q: There are a few trees that will be in the parking area. Can we identify if any will remain in the lot?

Recommendation is to not have any in the lot, because of root damage and vehicle access around A: All trees shall be removed and the roots grubbed for the new parking lot.

#6 - Lot 16 Q: It was discussed in lot 16, but could apply to other areas. It was brought up by the asphalt contractor that milling / pulverizing the top of the existing asphalt surface, there will be no grade changes and they do not wish to be liable for ponding / puddling of water. This could only happen if the A: Every effort should be made to fine grade pulverized surfaces to promote drainage. Milled and pulverized surfaces may contain small regions of puddling due to the existing surface. In general, ponding surfaces should not exceed 1" in depth over a five foot radius.

#7 - Lot 15 Q: Approximately the south 2/3 of the lot is in poor condition for crack seal / slurry seal. At the very least there will need to be areas removed and replaced with new asphalt. Is there a desire to replace this with new asphalt similar to Lot 16?

A: Yes. The southern 2/3rds of Lot 15 should be pulverized similar to Lot 16. The SOW for the northern 1/3rd of Lot 15 shall not change. Please price the all the work in Lot 15 as a single work task showing cost for pulverized section and a sealed section.

#8 - Loading dock area at B401 Q: Dumpster pad is called out 19'x27'. On the walkthrough, it appears the pad should be more like 23'x40'. Is this what is preferred?

A: Yes. The concrete pad should provide ground coverage for all dumpsters on the pad.

#9 - Loading dock area at B401 Q: It calls for the drive surface to be milled 1" and replaced with 1" of new asphalt. The drive surface is pretty rough, there will probably need to have more milled and replaced to a deeper depth. Is this A: Yes. Please specify the depth of milling in your bid.
