B. Properly size and redesign underground steam condensate piping from campus buildings to boiler plant.
C. Properly size and redesign underground steam vacuum system piping from campus buildings to boiler plant.
D. Design new underground tunnel system from boiler plant to campus buildings to house new steam supply, condensate return and vacuum distribution systems.
E. Add steam supply and condensate return piping to building 106 & 17 for future use and investigate other possible buildings with Life Cycle cost analysis.
F. Evaluate transmitting steam at boiler header pressure HPS across campus and reducing at each building to MPS.
G. Conduct Steam trap survey to identify replacement steam traps.
H. Design new steam trap monitoring system.
I. Design new conductivity monitoring system for each building’s main condensate return line.
J. Properly size and redesign new steam supply, condensate, and vacuum distribution systems that are within building crawl spaces and connecting tunnels.
K. Replace existing condensate pumps throughout entire campus.
L. Asbestos abatement Survey.
M. Evaluate existing CHP plant and boiler plant for operational and efficiency issues.
N. Replace building steam main shut off valves.
O. Conduct a steam distribution system survey to document the locations and type of any cast iron and malleable iron fittings and components for replacement with forged or cast steel fittings
P. Asbestos/Lead Survey
III. JUSTIFICATION
A. The original steam distribution system was installed 40+ years ago and has exceeded its life expectancy.
B. This project will eliminate super-heated water losses within the deteriorated system.
C. The existing steam system has numerous leaks and condensate not being returned to the boiler plant resulting in additional make up water, water softening and chemical usage.
D. Underground piping is insulated with asbestos.
