However, page 6 of 49 of the Solicitation under Scope of New Work requires that the Contractor is required to Commission the elevators. Does this require the contractor to supply a Cx Agent or just a Cx Manager? Please clarify the commissioning requirements.
ANS: VA to decide if Commissioning to be performed by a company under contract to VA or if Commissioning is responsibility of Contractor.
Specifications require Cx Agent if work to be performed by company under contract to Contractor.
2. No fire protection is shown on the prints or in the specifications. Do the new elevators require fire protection in the sump area or overhead in the shaft?

ANS: VA COR, Kerry R. Cole, (334) 727-0550 ext.3969 mailto:steve.marks@convergint.com
2. What is the purpose of the two-hour separation walls between each car that are supposed to be constructed while working on the cars and then removed? We have been in the elevator installation and repair business and have never seen a requirement to install something like these walls. These walls will have to be constructed during off hours (nights and weekends). In addition, the GC/Drywall contractor will have to have someone from the elevator company on site the entire time to run the elevators up and down while the metal stud/drywall installation occurs. This appears to be a very expensive proposition that the VA will be paying for with no real benefit.
ANS: Provide 2-hour separation walls as required by drawings. Since elevators are to be replaced 1 at a time the new 2-hour wall maintains integrity of 2-hour rated elevator shaft.

ANS: J.F.WOLFE & ASSOCIATES, 417-887-8263
8. Is it a consideration in regards to retaining the existing guide rail systems for the car and counterweights?
ANS: NO, replace as required by Construction Documents
9. Is there an option to retain the existing deflector sheave for each elevator?
ANS: NO, replace the items as required by Construction Documents
10. Is there an option for retaining the existing machine, with installation of a new
A/C drive motor?
ANS: NO, replace items as required by Construction Documents
11. Is there an option to retain existing car sling and platform?
12. Is there an option to retain the existing car safety device?
13. Is the emergency generator capable of running all three elevators or is a requirement needed that they sequentially lower, and after all elevators are at the designated landing, one elevator will be chosen via key-switch at designated landing dictate which elevator should run on emergency power?
ANS: It can run all three elevators
RFI-6
The Fire Alarm Elevator Detail #4 on drawing E101 points out an existing Simplex (JCI) fire alarm control panel which is a proprietary system. JCI was not able to attend the site visit and is therefore not able to provide a solid price proposal for the fire alarm work. Please advise as to how we can price this project.
ANS: Our construction documents call out the manufacturer and model of the existing system components for informational purposes only. We do not call for the replacement of this system.
Any authorized installer of Simplex systems is capable of modifying the existing system. If JCI is unable to do this work, another fire alarm installer familiar with and authorized to install Simplex equipment can do the work
