About this file

This document is a Justification and Approval (J&A) form for a sole source procurement by the Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically the Washington DC VA Medical Center (DCVAMC). The procurement is for a Sterirack shelving system to be installed in two rooms of the Sterile Processing Service (SPS), aimed at improving sterile storage practices for Reusable Medical Devices (RMDs). The contract is being awarded under the "Unusual and Compelling Urgency" authority, which permits other than full and open competition due to urgent patient safety and compliance requirements.

The document highlights the unique qualifications of the selected contractor, who demonstrated capabilities at a national conference and completed a successful project at another VA facility. The procurement is deemed critical for enhancing patient safety, preventing physical damage to medical instruments, and creating a safer work environment. The total contract value is not explicitly stated, but the procurement process involves certification by the Sterile Processing Service Chief, a Contracting Officer, and a Branch Chief, with approvals required to justify the sole source selection under the Simplified Acquisition Threshold (SAT).
