Statement of Need The Operating Room/Neuro Surgery Service at the Pittsburgh VA Healthcare System is requesting a Brain Lab Elekta Stereotaxy platform with accessories and a software subscription service with maintenance. This system is used to perform minimally invasive Brain surgery.

Stereotactic Neurosurgery is a minimally invasive way to perform Brain Surgery, treating specific regions of the brain while sparing surrounding tissue and implementing deep brain simulation to treat specific brain disorders. The Elekta Stereotactic system is the leading system. A contains a top of the line planning software that allows service to multiple specialties and combines stereotaxy, segmentation and fiber tracking. The Leksell Frame allows more of a visual space for the Surgeon to work without distorting the image.

Currently our Veterans are being fee-based out to the community for this procedure and then coming to the VA for their follow up care. It is imperative to have this equipment at the VA to better accommodate our veterans within the Pittsburgh VA.
