“REPLACE FLOORING, 1ST FLOOR, BLDG.4 at FDR”

SECTION 09 65 13

RESILIENT BASE AND ACCESSORIES

GENERAL

SUMMARY

Section Includes:

Resilient base (RB) adhered to interior walls and partitions.

Resilient stair treads (RST) adhered to interior stair treads.

Sheet rubber flooring (SRF) adhered to interior stair landings.

APPLICABLE PUBLICATIONS

Comply with references to extent specified in this section.

ASTM International (ASTM):

F186108(2012)e1 - Resilient Wall Base.

SUBMITTALS

Submittal Procedures: Section 01 33 23, SHOP DRAWINGS, PRODUCT DATA, AND SAMPLES.

Manufacturer's Literature and Data:

Description of each product.

Adhesives and primers indicating manufacturer's recommendation for each application.

Installation instructions.

Samples:

Resilient Base: 150 mm (6 inches) long, each type and color.

Sustainable Construction Submittals:

Recycled Content: Identify postconsumer and preconsumer recycled content percentage by weight.

Low PollutantEmitting Materials:

Stair Treads and Sheet Rubber Flooring: Submit FloorScore label.

Show volatile organic compound types and quantities.

Operation and Maintenance Data:

Care instructions for each exposed finish product.

DELIVERY

Deliver products in manufacturer's original sealed packaging.

Mark packaging, legibly. Indicate manufacturer's name or brand, type, color, production run number, and manufacture date.

Before installation, return or dispose of products within distorted, damaged, or opened packaging.

STORAGE AND HANDLING

Store products indoors in dry, weathertight facility.

Protect products from damage when handling and during construction operations.

FIELD CONDITIONS

Environment:

Product Temperature: Minimum 21 degrees C (70 degrees F) for minimum 48 hours before installation.

Work Area Ambient Temperature Range: 21 to 27 degrees C (70 to 80 degrees F) continuously, beginning 48 hours before installation.

Install products when building is permanently enclosed and when wet construction is completed, dried, and cured.

WARRANTY

Construction Warranty: FAR clause 52.24621, "Warranty of Construction." Limited 5 Year Commercial Warranty for Resilient Base.

PRODUCTS

PRODUCTS

Basis of Design: Burke base Type TP 1/8” or approved equal (see attached salient characteristics) Provide each product from one manufacturer and from one production run.

Sustainable Construction Requirements:

Sheet Rubber Flooring Recycled Content: 90 percent total recycled content, minimum.

Low PollutantEmitting Materials: FloorScore Certified. LEED 2009: MRc5 Regional Material; IEQ4.1 Low Emitting Adhesives; IEQ4.3 Low Emitting Material – Flooring; LEEDv4: IEQc2 – Low Emitting Materials

RESILIENT BASE

Resilient Base: 3 mm (1/8 inch) thick, 100 mm (4 inches) high.

Type: Rubber. Use one type throughout.

ASTM F1861, Type TP thermoplastic rubber, Group 2 - layered.

Applications:

Other Locations: Style B - Cove.

ADHESIVES

Adhesives: Low pollutantemitting, water based type recommended by adhered product manufacturer for each application.

EXECUTION

PREPARATION

Examine and verify substrate suitability for product installation.

Protect existing construction and completed work from damage.

Remove existing base to permit new installation.

Dispose of removed materials.

Correct substrate deficiencies.

Fill cracks, pits, and depressions with leveling compound.

Remove protrusions; grind high spots.

Apply leveling compound to achieve 3 mm (1/8 inch) in 3 m (10 feet) maximum surface variation.

Clean substrates. Remove contaminants capable of affecting subsequently installed product's performance.

Allow substrate to dry and cure.

INSTALLATION GENERAL

Install products according to manufacturer's instructions.

When instructions deviate from specifications, submit proposed resolution for Contracting Officer consideration.

RESILIENT BASE INSTALLATION

Applications:

Install resilient base in rooms scheduled on Drawings.

Install resilient base on casework and locker toe spaces and other curb supported fixed equipment.

Extend resilient base into closets, alcoves, and cabinet knee spaces, and around columns within scheduled room.

Lay out resilient base with minimum number of joints.

Length: 600 mm (24 inches) minimum, each piece.

Locate joints 150 mm (6 inches) minimum from corners and intersection of adjacent materials.

Installation:

Apply adhesive uniformly for full contact between resilient base and substrate.

Set resilient base with hairline butted joints aligned along top edge.

Factory form corners and end stops.

Vgroove back of outside corner.

Vgroove face of inside corner and notch cove for miter joint.

Roll resilient base ensuring complete adhesion.

CLEANING

Remove excess adhesive before adhesive sets.

Clean exposed resilient base surfaces. Remove contaminants and stains.

Clean with mild detergent. Leave surfaces free of detergent residue.

Polish exposed resilient base to gloss sheen.

PROTECTION

Protect products from construction traffic and operations.

Maintain protection until directed by Contracting Officer's Representative.

Replace damaged products and reclean.

Damaged Products include cut, gouged, scraped, torn, and unbonded products.
