CONSTRUCTION SYNOPSIS
VA Medical Center Providence, RI
FCA Pavement Repairs
PROJECT 650-07-102
1. GENERAL:
Contractor shall completely prepare site for site construction operations, including demolition and removal of existing road and parking pavement, sidewalks, curb and gutter, site lighting, and related above and below grade structures. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, tools, materials, testing, and construction to perform work for the FCA Pavement Repairs project at the VA Medical Center (VAMC), 830 Chalkstone Ave, Providences RI as required by drawings and specifications. All work shall be done in accordance with, all laws, ordinances, building codes, rules and regulations applying to the work, including, but not limited to VA, Federal, State, County, City, Industry design guides, codes, standards, regulations and policies. Contractor shall work with COR to minimize construction impact to daily operation of the Providence VAMC.
This Construction Synopsis acts as a general overview of the project and has no bearing on the construction documents.
2. BACKGROUND:
The condition of the pavement along Air Force Drive and within Parking Lot 10 is in poor condition and in need of repair. The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the pavement surface to improve the service life of the roadway and parking area. The project will include, but not limited to, the following construction:
1. Professional survey before and after work.
2. Repairing pavement and sidewalks along Air Force Drive from the intersection with Armed Forces Blvd. to a point immediately east of the existing bridge (end of newer pavement from Valley Street to the bridge).
3. Site work includes excavation, removal of unsuitable fill, drainage piping, backfilling, and compaction, concrete (sidewalk, curb and gutter, catch basin repairs), asphalt (pavement removal and replacement with new), asphalt milling, asphalt leveling course application, specified underlayment, tack coat, and final wear course application.
4. Repair and/or Removal and replacement of drainage structures and along Air Force Drive and within Parking Lot 10 to improve drainage.
5. Realigning Air Force Drive at Parking Lot 10.
6. Repairing and/or replacing damaged curbing and curbing with incorrect reveals.
7. Repair erosion damage and construction measures to prevent future erosion damage along the slope to the northerly side of Air Force Drive.

8. Construction of earth retaining structures and a sidewalk along the northerly side of Air Force Drive from the exiting sidewalk near the bridge to a point adjacent to Parking Lot 6.
9. Relocation of street lights.
10. Installation of emergency call station at intersection of existing and proposed sidewalks north of Air Force Drive.
11. Clearing perimeter areas to north, east and south of Parking Lot 10 of accumulated debris, sand, and overgrown vegetation.
12. Re-grading areas within Parking Lot 10 and along the perimeter as needed to facilitate improvements.
13. Repairing and/or replacing deficient and or damaged guard rails.
14. Construction of a new parking lot at Trailer T-18 (VA Police Headquarters).
15. Relocation of the existing emergency call box and lighting to facilitate improvements.
16. Restore landscaped areas disturbed by work.
17. Construction of a reinforced concrete dumpster pad for roll-off dumpster located southeast of the boiler plant in order to protect bituminous concrete pavement from damage
