ADDITIONAL Q&AS
Casper Substation Fence
ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS FROM PROSPECTIVE CONTRACTORS:
Q1: The cross section detail on drawing 0021 shows undisturbed earth, compacted backfill, gravel surface, and ground level. There seems to be a bar above the ground level label. Is there anything that is supposed to be on top of ground level, or is that just how the detail is drawn?
A1: No, there is nothing above the ground level. The gravel surfacing is the finished surface. Note there is a layer of geotextile fabric between the compacted backfill and gravel surfacing.
Q2: Is there a specific type of compacted backfill?
A2: Please see Standard 2, Sitework, Section 2.5.7 Excavation from Borrow.
Q3: Are you accepting partial bids on this project (fencing only, concrete only, etc.)?
A3: No. The project has to be bid on as a whole.
Q4: I do not see a specification on fencing plan drawing 0021 to indicate A, B, or C of the details that are listed on 31 1501, 31 2000-1, 31 2000-2, 31 2001, 31 2038 as noted on 0021 can you clarify this for me?
A4: 31 1501: A is a typical fence post, B is the attachment detail for a gate, and C is the isolation panel that will be used.
31 2000-1: State all the general reqs for chain link fence 31 2000-2: Shows more typical fence details. Keep in mind this the “Standard” fence for this installation.
31 2001: Show the gate latches required on all gates.
31 2038: Shows the standard gate types, most gates are Type I 16 ft gates. The new one on the NE corner is 20 ft.
Q5: I do not see a specification on whether 3a or 3b is to be the type of fence built, can you clarify this for me?
A5: The fence is a 3A “Standard Chain Link Fence”, not the high security version with razor wire in 3B.
Q6: I do not see a standard on GBW or GAW fence fabric, can you clarify this for me?
A6: GAW is the correct fabric.
Q7: Will the existing grounding lugs need to be removed, and then reattached, by a licensed electrician?
A7: Cutoff at the ground grid and then new is attached with a new connection.
Q8: All of the drawings that you have posted, though mainly just the electrical and fence sheets what size (length" & height") are the sheets drawn in? The reason for the question is to enlarge them to be able to read them better.
A8: They are drawing in cad as ANSI D, then printed as 11x17 in Adobe Acrobat.
ADDITIONAL Q&AS
Q9: Page two (2) of the 89503221BWA000043, shows the breakdown of prices and I believe that a separate CLIN number for the electrical grounding needs to be added, since there is going to be a lot of it to be done?
A9: Electrical ground connections to the fence shall be included in the work and pricing for installing chain link fence.
Q10: I see in looking from the southwest corner of the property on chamberlain street that there is NO
EXISTING FENCE TO TIE INTO! WILL THERE BE WHEN THE JOB IS ACTUALLY DONE?
A10: We looked into this and no one is sure what you mean. All fence is there as described.
Q11: Knife River is requesting drawings with existing and design elevation lines to show the amount of compacted backfill to bring the site to grade. Without this information, there is not a way to determine the amount of import/export for this project.
A11: The compacted material layer will be created by compacting 6 inch lifts to create a final thickness of approximately 6 inches. The finished elevation for the storage yard will be approximately 5163.5 ft.
