About this file
This is a technical specification attachment for the Kansas State Flags procurement issued by the Kansas Secretary of State. The specification details the official design and construction requirements for the State of Kansas flag, with a standard size of three feet wide by five feet long, proportionally scalable for larger or smaller versions. The flag shall be constructed from outdoor materials including nylon, polyester, and rayon bunting, or cotton for indoor use. The specification requires a centered state seal measuring seventeen inches in diameter, positioned eleven inches above the base of the flag, with a six-inch diameter crest wreath located two inches above the base. Below the seal, the word "KANSAS" in gold letters five inches high with a one-inch stroke width shall be placed two inches above the base edge. The seal and lettering must be silk screened with color-fast dyes to ensure clear, sharp images.
The specification establishes precise color requirements and design elements for all components of the flag, including the state seal featuring a specific arrangement of buffalo (five in the herd), a settler's cabin without smoke, the motto "Ad astra per aspera" with thirty-four stars in the scroll, and detailed color specifications for landscape elements such as hills in purple, river in light blue, and sky in yellow and orange gradients. A one-inch white band with gold twisted braid surrounds the seal circumference. The crest shall display a wreath of azure with a sunflower in natural colors on a bar of twisted gold and blue. All design elements must be rendered with precise positioning and coloration to maintain consistency and quality standards for official state flag production.
