The dimensions must not change to remain in compliance with our air quality permit from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
2.0 Background: The United State Department of Agriculture, USDA, Agriculture
Research Service, ARS, located in Ames, Iowa has a requirement for removal and replacement of refractory in Incinerator 5. The USDA operates this controlled air incinerator at a rate of 500 pounds per hour. The refractory in this incinerator is exhibiting cracking and separation in several areas in the primary and secondary chambers. This incinerator was upgraded in 2010 and the refractory in the primary and secondary chambers were relined at that time. There have been several areas of refractory that has been patched sense that time. The incinerator will now require the demolition and replacement of all refractories below the charge door and below the stack.
