LASSEN VOLCANIC NATIONAL PARK

WASTEWATER PUMPING SPECIFICATIONS 2019/2020

1) The estimated volume of wastewater to be pumped each year is approximately 85,000 gallons. Gallons to be pumped vary, depending on usage and the length of the summer season.

2) The Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 contract period will start approximately end of June 2019 and run through approximately end of October 2019. Option years may be exercised at the discretion of the National Park Service.

3) Septic tanks and vault toilets are located throughout Lassen Volcanic National Park (See attached map). There are upward of 50 tanks within the park (See Attached). Tanks range in size from 1,200-gallon vaults to 16,000-gallon septic tanks (vaults have been counted as one tank though there are two compartments).

4) Wastewater must be hauled to a state-approved waste disposal site outside of Lassen Volcanic National Park. The contractor is responsible for the arrangement and disposal of all waste. Per the California Water Quality Control Board; the contractor will maintain, throughout the contract period, a septage disposal form (LAVO 63, see attached). This form will be mailed after each callout to:

Lassen Volcanic National Park

PO Box 100

Mineral CA 96063

Attn: Graham Dobson

5) Contractor vehicles and all equipment must be free of leaks and in safe operating condition. Contractor is responsible for the complete cleanup of all spills or leaks within Lassen Volcanic National Park. Contractor vehicles must be free of any non-indigenous vegetative material.

6) The first pumping is estimated to start end of June 2019. However, additional pumping will be on an as needed basis throughout the year. Contractor will be contacted when vaults fill to within 18” of the top or if a tank is in need of servicing (Heavy sludge layer).

7) Lassen Volcanic National Park will notify the contractor of the vaults and or septic tanks to be pumped. This will include the order of priority as well as dates of desired pumping. A minimum response time of three (3) days is required. Notification of pumping will only be made by Graham Dobson, Chris Parker and Merita Kimball.

8) Lassen Park must be notified if the contractor is called out on emergency service for an extended period of time i.e.: wildfire. The Park must be notified with as much lead time as feasible in order to make alternative arrangements with a qualified contractor.
