SOLICITATION NO. 140P8419Q0054

REPLACE CHATEAU AREA SEPTIC TANK,

OREGON CAVES NATIONAL MONUMENT & PRESERVE,

JOSEPHINE COUNTY, OREGON

SITE VISIT – JUNE 27, 2019

SITE VISIT SUMMARY SUMMARY:

A site visit was conducted on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 11am Pacific Daylight Time. Participants met at the Oregon Caves NM Headquarters building for a project overview meeting, with the technical representative available via conference call to field any technical questions. After the conclusion of the meeting, participants were shown the site.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS RECEIVED TO DATE:

1. What are the typical weather conditions pertaining to snow?

Snow is likely from late November to early March, but the season can extend longer in either direction.

Recommended construction window is late October mobilization with waterline shut off following visitor center closure on Nov 2, 2019.

2. Will water be shutoff to for the facilities during construction?

Waterline can be shut off after November 3, 2019. NPS can discuss earlier shut offs for short time periods (less than 4 hours)

3. When was the tank last pumped? What is the sludge depth?

Park is investigating pump records. Assume full for your bid.

4. Is contractor required to provide import fill?

Yes, as per plans and specs.

5. Is contractor to provide temporary sanitary facilities?

Yes, 4 unisex chemical toilets as per specs.

6. How thick concrete walls on the current septic tank that is to be demoed? Dimensions?

Below is a figure of the tank dimensions.

1941 drawing of nearby manholes indicate that the thickness is 6” reinforced, concrete. NPS assumes the septic tank has a similar thickness.

7. How deep is the leach line (concern about crushing line with construction vehicles/equipment)?

Can NPS haul in gravel to reinforce road bed to protect leach line?

From previous plans, a PVC leach line is at least 12 inches deep. To protect the line, NPS requests the contractor to include in their proposal creating a service road to cross the leach line. The Servic road shall consist of 3” of gravel x 10’ x 6’ overtop the leach line to provide a corridor for the contractor to get across.

8. Are any trees in the construction zone to be removed?

Contractor will not be required to remove trees. NPS will coordinate to have necessary trees removed.
