Generator Installation
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
Solicitation #140P6424Q0003
Questions & Answers Part 2
Question #1 – Who is the power provider?
Answer – Consumers power sells line voltage to the complex, the overhead lines within the maintenance complex property are Park owned equipment.
Question #2 – For the underground piping - can we use polyethylene instead of steel? It would be much cheaper, use less fittings, and this is what we would typically use.
Answer – Please submit bid per Project Specifications. An alternate bid can also be submitted to include the use of polyethylene.
Question #3 – Can we use Viega MegaPress fittings for the above ground steel piping instead of the threaded joints?
Answer – Please submit bid per Project Specifications. An alternate bid can also be submitted to include the use of Viega MegaPress fittings.
Question #4 – It is listed that the units have to be naturally aspirated. The 25kW we will be using are so that is no problem, however the 60kW is a turbocharged and aftercooled intake system. Would this be okay?
Answer – Please submit bid per Project Specifications. An alternate bid can also be submitted to include the use of a 60kW turbocharged generator with an aftercooled intake system.
Question #5 – Access to the attic in the carpenter shop is limited. Would running the gas line next to the other water and utility lines below the ceiling be acceptable?
Answer – Yes, as long as it does not contradict Project Specifications. An alternate bid can be submitted to include gas piping installed adjacent to existing utilizes.
Question #6 – Is there a copy of the sizing calculations for gas and electric?
Answer – Please consult utility providers Consumers Energy and DTE Energy.
Question #7 – What is the gas supply pressure for each building and is there a calculation used to determine if this line size feeding buildings is sufficient (engineering)?
Answer – DTE Energy is the gas provider for the facility. Please consult DTE for information on this matter.
Question #8 – I have also reviewed the power supply and disconnecting to properly work on getting the Main roc building and the carpenter shop power cleared for work.
The existing primary at this location does not appear to be in great shape and if we pull the fuses and the holders and insulators fall apart I do not want to be responsible for the repairs. The primary is owned by the facility, not the power company?
Answer – The primary lines on the property are owned by the facility.
Question #9 – Can we use a precast pad? The ones I want to supply are from Americast pads and would be a great product to use. There will be less concrete contamination and dust and such along with leaching into the environment.
These are built for the application and we can spend less time installing and testing the mix as this is factory made and designed.
Answer – Please follow the Project Specifications.
