TANAWHA BRIDGE REHABILITATION
QUESTION: What is the limit of the concrete footing for the pier, does it need to line up and be flush with the bridge pier?
ANSWER: The answer is no, and in fact it is whatever is needed to provide a stable footing for the bridge. The drawings give a general idea.
QUESTION: Can Rip Rap from the Creek be used?
ANSWER: Yes, however there is no stone work on the pier itself, only on the river bank to secure the bank from further erosion.
QUESTION: Can the trail to the bridge be hardened?
ANSWER: We are OK with putting down targeted aggregate base on sections of the trail that are soggy or excessively rocky, but not the whole way (as a bridging material only). No trail widening is permitted.
QUESTION: Does the footer have to be secured with dowel rods?
ANSWER: This is not the intent. We are only expecting minor excavation to stable material and pouring the concrete around the pier making contact with the stable material and the pier proper.
QUESTION: What are the requirements for the rebar cage?
ANSWER: I noted only that the NPS will need to approve it before any concrete is poured and it must be in line with the drawings.
