About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding a solicitation for interpretive design, fabrication, and installation of exhibits at the Depot at Cane River Creole National Historical Park. The National Park Service seeks a contractor to produce an interpretive framework, design exhibits for the visitor center and outdoor nodes, and fabricate and install the first changeable exhibit. The contractor will also provide an exhibit solutions pitch to demonstrate its proposed approach. At least one but potentially two outdoor nodes are required, with furniture quantities to be determined. The existing regional wayfinding system will be expanded.

FINAL QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

QUES 1: The 2021 Interpretive Framework is referenced several times as a critical document produced thus far for the Depot. Can a draft, in whatever state it exists be provided now?

ANS 1: Yes. Attached is the final draft of the Depot Framework. It’s currently under final park review, but the park doesn’t anticipate too many edits, if any. What’s not included in this draft is all the appendices of the interviews and community stories that were gathered. Those have not been submitted yet.

QUES 2: Who produced/is producing the Interpretive Framework?

ANS 2: Thirteen 92 Corp with Interpretive Communications as a subcontractor.

QUES 3: 3.A.1 - Visitor Center Room is referenced and described that design shall “utilize the 18-foot ceilings to expand the exhibit area”. Does this indicate that the contractor shall create a second architectural floor within the space to expand the area? The directive is both specific and vague and clarification as to what this means can be helpful to understand if NPS is requiring architectural renovation in addition to exhibits.

ANS 3: No, NPS is not requiring any building renovations or a second floor. This wording is intended to convey that exhibits should span the entire floor to ceiling space and use the vertical space to the park’s advantage.

QUES 4: 3.A.6.b - Changeable Exhibit - SOW indicates that within the Visitor Center Room a portion of that space will be dedicated to the changing exhibit. Please confirm that the fabrication/installation of this is not included in the scope of work, but only the design for the first exhibit through the Production II drawings. What amount of the space is desired by NPS for the changeable exhibit for its ongoing exhibit needs?

ANS 4: Fabrication/installation of the first changeable exhibit is part of this scope. Amount of space will be determined in consultation with NPS staff as the other exhibits are designed.

QUES 5: 3.A.6.b - Lighting. Will NPS provide all electrical systems and controls up to the point of connection of track and/or other systems provided for and installed by the contractor? Is the contractor to provide licensed electricians to make final connection and test the system or will NPS provide this service? Will all electrical outlets and whip connections, as well as data connection, be provided by

NPS?

ANS 5: NPS is only providing electrical outlets and data ports. Any lighting or other electrical needs is to be designed and installed by the contractor.

QUES 6: Option Item 0002 - How many nodes are to be expected? Is there a minimum quantity for the outdoor furniture by type? Does a wayfinding system exist within the site already that is being expanded upon by the contractor in this location or is the wayfinding system completely new?

ANS 6: At least one node is part of the scope, but there is space for two. There is no minimum quantity of furniture; NPS is expecting contractor to inform that decision. There is a wayfinding system already in place (green heritage area auto-directional signs throughout the region); wayfinding for the nodes is to give directions from the Depot to the park/plantations.

QUES 7: What is to be presented in the “Exhibit Solutions Pitch”? The documentation does not provide guidance as to what is desired for evaluation? Is it expected that the contractors are presenting exhibit concepts for the project even though there has been no materials provided about the NPS and NHA direction for content or visitor experience?

ANS 7: The Exhibit Solutions Pitch is designed to be a forum for the contractor to tell the NPS how they would approach the project and potential exhibits/technologies to be used to enhance the visitor experience.
