About this file
This document contains questions and answers regarding Solicitation # 140P4223Q0051 for fire extinguisher inspection and service at Shenandoah National Park. The solicitation requires inspection and 6-year service of fire extinguishers across multiple locations within the park as indicated in an attached inventory. It also includes line items for unscheduled service of up to $5,000 annually to accommodate extinguishers due for service and unexpected needs. Pricing is broken down by per unit costs for different extinguisher types and services. While most extinguishers require service in the base year, only a few will need it annually thereafter. The park has approximately 60 spare extinguishers located in a warehouse that require inspection and servicing, and these can be used to replace non-functioning units in the field. The National Park Service will provide a guide to assist with access and knowledge of the park locations during all work.

Solicitation # 140P4223Q0051, SHEN Fire Extinguisher Inspection and Service
QUESTION ANSWERS
How many different locations are there within the park that have fire extinguishers?
Unit locations are indicated in the attached inventory.
Can you provide a list of the quantities and types of fire extinguishers at each location?
Yes, this information is included in the attached inventory.
Can you please clarify what is meant by the “Fire Extinguisher Inspections and 6 Year Service, Unscheduled Service Not To Exceed $5,000.00” line items? Does this mean any extinguishers that are due for the 6-year maintenance, service calls, etc.?
The majority of extinguishers in the park require 6 year service in the base year. In the following years there are few extinguishers requiring this service, to accommodate these and unexpected service needs, the "unscheduled" lines will be used to cover service for any units that may require it, within the Not To Exceed limitations.
These lines are broken down into per unit pricing for each type of unit and/or service as applicable.
Can you provide any further information on how many locations the extinguishers are located?
Yes, each unit’s location is indicated in the attached inventory.
Are there any extinguishers located in “Cabins” or other remote areas that vehicles cannot access?
If so, how does the park intend to have these units serviced?
There are very few. NPS will replace these units with spares on hand. In the following years these will be serviced, but will remain out of service until that time.
Does the Park have any spares extinguishers that would enable us to "pre-inspect" those units and exchange them in the field with units that need more in-depth service?
Yes. NPS has approximately 60 spares located in a warehouse located at the HQ complex, which require inspection/servicing. It is recommended work start at this location, and spares be taken along with the Contractor once inspected/serviced to replace non-functional units if/as discovered elsewhere in the Park .
Will the Park provide an employee that will assist us with access to the rooms and/or locations of extinguishers across the entire park?
Yes, for the entirety of the work, the Contractor will be provided with a guide who will have keys and operational knowledge of the Park.
