PERFORM SURFACE REPAIRS ON MULTI USE PATH TRAIL

GATEWAY NATIONAL RECREATION AREA – PMIS #256574

1. Q: What should the construction contractor do with the asphalt millings?

A: Millings shall be removed from the park.

2. Q: What should the construction contractor do with the wood chips from the landscaping work?

A: Wood chips shall be removed from the park.

3. Q: Would it be possible for one person to fulfill the roles of project manager, superintendent, and safety manager simultaneously?

A: One person may fulfill the role of the project manager, superintendent, and safety manager as long as that person qualifies for each role. It is also acceptable for different persons to occupy each role as long as each person qualifies for each role.

4. Q: In the section marked K on sheet C6, the specification drawings call for crack sealing and slurry sealing. This section of the multi-use path trail is at the end of its service life and it is showing alligator cracking. Would it not be a better treatment to repave this section?

A: The scope of work is amended to include Option 2, which includes paving the section of pathway between Hartshorne Dr. and Magruder Rd. in Guardian Park. This area is marked as section K on drawing C6. The specifications for this section of paving are shown in the new drawing C9. There is an updated contract price schedule with information related to this amendment. The updated contract price schedule for Option 2 includes a line for the cost for the paving work, a line to deduct the cost of the slurry seal and crack fill work for this section, and a line for the net cost for this option.

5. Q: Is there any specific brand and model bollard that is being figured? What size bollard is being called for? The detail shows a 16” diameter footing, but does not show any length or width measurements for the cross section of the bollard.

A: Minimum height is 42”. Minimum diameter is 4”. No brand is specified. Bollard shall be flexible or bendable such that it will bend when impacted by a car. It shall have a base that can bolt to the inserts in the foundation.

6. Q: Refer to spec section 32 12 36 – Slurry Seal, Paragraph E. Slurry Seal Application. Table 421.03.04-1 states that type 1 slurry seal should be installed on the surface course and intermediate course at an application rate of 10-14 lbs/sy. Please confirm if the intent is to install one lift of slurry seal on surface course or intermediate course pavement surfaces or if it is to install two lifts of slurry seal, one on the intermediate course and one on the surface course.

A: The intent is to install one lift of slurry seal on top of the surface course.
