140L5724Q0019 Catle Guards Q&A
Q1 - Could 3/16 wall x 3 x 3 square tubing be used on the top for the grid rather that the roll formed material.
A1 - The BLM spec provided in the contract for rolled formed material will be required.
Q2 - In the cattle guard specifications it says guards will be 8ft x 8ft x 8in. Is the 8in an over all measurement for height or is it the height for the beams?
A2 - The height is for the beams as shown in the drawing included in the contract package.
Q3 - Is there a specific way the concrete bases need to be made?
A3 - The concrete bases are to be built according to the BLM spec found in the drawing that was included in the contract package. As long as the bases meet the required spec a specific way to construct them is not required.
Q4 - Is there a specific way (material and size) that the wings need to be made?
A4 - The wings will be constructed using 2" x 2" x 5/16" angle iron. See attached drawing for cattle guard wings and refer to the portion in the drawing that describes the Angle-Iron End Wing for detailed instructions.
Q5 - Can the cattle guards be welded with a mig welder using L-56 Lincoln wire instead of 7018 rod?
A5 - The BLM spec requires the use of 7018 rod. Please follow that spec and use 7018 rod.
Q6 - Is any D.O.T approved plans for a cattle guard, wings, and concrete bases that meet HS-20 load rating accepted?
A6- The only spec that will be accepted is the BLM spec described in the contracting package.
Q7 – Vendor stated that the quesons they are asking are not clear in the drawings, could you please provide clarificaon?
A7 - I did refer to only the drawings/specs in a couple of answers, but on those quesons the specs seemed clear to me. Was there a specific queson that the vendor needed clarificaon on or did all quesons need more clarificaon? The drawings provided are just the standard BLM drawings that the BLM uses for all submissions that I'm aware of, so it seems like those drawings should be familiar to the vendor if they've done work for the BLM before. We would just like the standard BLM catle guard and bases.
A8 - The catle guards should be 8' long. The drawing wasn't updated when it was sent. I've included an updated drawing to reflect the 8' length. (Atached in amendment)
