Pre-Bid Questions and Answers

Q: At the Gunnison Forks site where the disposal area is indicated, are resultant materials from clearing and grubbing as well as excess materials to be bermed or is the material just to be spread across the surface? Any erosion control required at this area?

A: The excess material shall be bermed. Erosion control is not required.

Q: The bid schedule calls for 63 cy of imported fill and I have not found any specifications for that material under the project specifications. Is there a certain type of material that will be needed for this item?

A: See section 31 00 00, paragraph 3.5 for further clarification.

Imported fill material shall be any material classified by ASTM D2487 as GW, GP, GM, GP-GM, GW-GM, GC, GP-GC, GM-GC, SW, SP, SM, SC, ML, CL, MH. And comprise stones less than 3 inches in any dimension. Organic soils, and highly plastic, fat clay soils are not acceptable.

Q: Local material suppliers have noted that they do not have a material that meets the specified #357 stone requirement and have requested that 1 ½” crushed be allowed to be substituted.

Does the Government consider this acceptable?

A: See attached clarification drawings for locations.

The subbase at locations “A” may be substituted with a gradation similar to a Number 3, 4, 467, or 57 stone from table 703-1 of the Colorado Department of Transportation, 2019 Standard Specifications. The alternative subbase shall be well graded and have 0-5% passing the #8 sieve.

The subbase at locations “B” may be substituted with any crushed stone aggregate with a top size of 5 inches. “Pit run” aggregate may also be used and shall have a stone top size of 5 inches.

Alternative gradations for the aggregate base course will not be accepted.
