Solicitation Number 140L3922Q0071 Goshute Herbicide Weed Treatment Questions & Answers

Q1) Could you estimate the approximate acreage that is roadside?

A1) Approximately 1000 acres of the contract is roadside.

Q2) In our experience 2 4-d alone only works on knapweed in the rosette stage. Due to the limited amount of aquatically approved herbicides would it be acceptable to use metsulfuron methyl (approved to the water’s edge) in combination with 2, 4-d in the aquatic sites?

A2) Metsulfuron Methyl is not allowed for the area since the soil pH is so high. According to the label for all Metsulfuron Methyl products we have approved for use on the Elko district they are not supposed to be applied to soils where the pH is higher than 7.9 and soils in our contract area averages about 8.8.

Q3) Is camping allowed within the project area?

A3) Camping and storing a water tanker on site is allowed as long as its done on BLM property and the BLM is not liable for any vandalization to any equipment kept out there.

Q4) I have a question about the Goshute shoot project there is a road that we started to use last year that has been established and has been a road for many years even the inspector said it was definitely a road. It is on not on the map and once they figured that out they would not allow us to use it that road allows access to about 800 acres is that road going to be available or not?

A4) The road that is being referenced is not supposed to be a road it was created by the public in a WSA area which is illegal. The continued use of that road is also illegal. Government weed specialists did use that road last year before knowing it was not supposed to be there, but after consulting with the recreation specialist they stopped using that road and asked contractors to also please stop using it but in no way did they punish them for doing so earlier because they both didn't know. We now know that it is not supposed to be there and are actively trying to rehab it so that it stops being used as a road. Also please be clear, if you are in a WSA area and there is a road out there that is not on the maps that we provide you can not use it unless you clear it with a government employee first.
