About this file

This document is a Question and Answer (Q&A) response to Requests for Information (RFIs) issued for the Scratchgravel Hills Noxious Weeds project (Solicitation Number 140L3626Q0007) by the Bureau of Land Management, Department of the Interior. The Q&A addresses contractor inquiries regarding acceptable application methods, site access, and operational constraints for weed treatment across the 500-acre Scratchgravel Hills unit.

The key responses clarify that aerial helicopter application is not recommended due to sparse weed distribution, but contractors may use drones, UTVs, or ATVs for treatment. Roads will be open for contractor access and spraying operations. Drones are permitted for the project, though the weed concentrations are scattered rather than uniform across the full 500 acres, requiring contractors to locate and target specific areas of infestation. Contractors must submit track logs to the BLM to confirm coverage of treated acres. The site offers no on-site water or camping facilities, which contractors should account for in project planning and logistics.

ANSWERS TO RFIs 3/5/2026

Would it be possible to perform the weed treatments for Scratchgravel aerially with a helicopter?

The weeds in Scratchgravel Hills are not plentiful across the entire unit so spraying with helicopter would probably not be economical. Location and spray by either drone or UTV would be acceptable.

I'm just looking for some clarification, the map shows roads are closed. Will those roads be open for contractors to use and spray from?

Road will be open for contractor to use. Drone application is also an option for contractors or they can use ATV, UTV Track log has to be returned to BLM to confirm all acres have been covered.

Will drones be allowed on the project?

The weeds in Scratchgravel Hills are not plentiful across the entire unit so spraying with drone would be possible but they will not spray all 500 acres Contractor needs to locate and spray concentrations of weeds across 500 acres

Is there water on site?

No Camping allowed on site?

No
