About this file

This record documents a pre-bid conference for a federal construction contract. The Lower Salmon River Boat Ramp Improvements Phase 2 project involves repair and replacement of boat ramps and surrounding structures at three sites along the Lower Salmon River in Idaho. Work includes replacing the bottom thirty feet of the existing ramp and installing new concrete aprons and footings at the Old Lucile Recreation Site, installing new footings and concrete aprons to improve the boat ramp at Slate Creek, and replacing an undermined section of the existing ramp that is unstable at Lucile. Bidders were advised that #4 rebar spaced at nine inches may be used for precast footings instead of #6 rebar, and the spacing of rebar in apron areas should be changed to eighteen inches to match the boat ramp. The pre-bid conference provided an opportunity for questions and any necessary clarifications regarding the solicitation and project details.

1. If precast footings are used, the #6 rebar is difficult to bend? Can we use #4 rebar on the footings?

Answer: Yes. #4 rebar at 9” spacing may be used on the footings.

2. Should rebar spacing on the aprons and ramp be similar to facilitate tying?

Answer: Yes. Change spacing of #4 rebar in apron areas to 18” rather than 12”

3. The existing ramp at Lucile is undermined and the concrete is not stable. It is likely to crumble while drilling for rebar placement. Should we replace the bottom section of the ramp that will be encapsulated by the new aprons?

Answer: Yes. Replace the bottom 30’ of the existing ramp at Old Lucile Rec Site. Use the same specifications and detail drawings provided for ramp construction.

4. The top of ramp at Slate Creek is above the high water mark and not likely to scour. Do we need to place footings all the way to top?

Answer: No. Provide footings to within 30’ of the top of Slate Creek Ramp.
