INFRASOUND SENSOR WIND REDUCTION SCREENS

QUESTION: The 1/2 " x 1/16:" gauge aluminum tubing we understand this to be square tubing, is that correct?

ANSWER: Correct. Square tubing is requested. Steel or aluminum is fine, whichever is best for welding the aluminum panels to the tubing.

QUESTION: What is the thickness of the 4"diameter top boss with 3/4 x 2" slot?

ANSWER: Clarified thickness is 1/16" or greater.

QUESTION: What is tolerance of the 3/4" wide x 2.000" long slot , also are the corners of slot radius or sharp?

ANSWER: The tolerance is +/-1/16". The corners may be radius or sharp, either is fine.

QUESTION: Since there is no fabrication tolerances, we will use our standard shop tolerance for a fabrication of the size shown, =+/- 3/32" thick.

ANSWER: This is fine.

QUESTION: We understand that the construction on the Wind Screen Reduction to be as follows. The aluminum perforated sheets are cut to shape and size. and welded in place. They are welded in place using the square tube which supports the top, (via 4" top boss), the vertical and the bottom. The outside joints are taped with heavy duty aluminum tape such as Nashua waterproofing tape for outdoor repairs. Bottom edge of screen does not require tape welding.

Since the type of welding is not specified, we shall use intermittent welding.

ANSWER: Intermittent welding is fine. Since the number of spot welds or techniques was not specified, I cannot change the requests. But 6 or more per long side would be good.

QUESTION: All surfaces top and bottom will be Painted Dark Forest Service type brown with outdoor rated paint. What type of paint is required "outdoor rated paint" can cover a wide variety of paint, what thickness of paint is required, are we to sandblast unit prior to painting? Do we paint over the tape?

ANSWER: A variety of outdoor paints are acceptable. Paints used for consumer outdoor metal fences or gates are fine. The paint must be known to adhere to the aluminum surfaces. Thickness of paint is assumed to be full coverage of metal surfaces underneath without excessive runs or brush marks. We assume a paintable surface as a minimum industry standard which would mean clean of oil and construction debris before painting. If sandblasting is best for the fabricator, this is acceptable. Please paint over the tape.

QUESTION: The photograph shows top surface of top 4" diameter boss not painted, yet the specs states "All surfaces top and bottom will be finish painted Dark Forest Service type brown".

Which is correct?

ANSWER: Perhaps there is light reflection on the photo, the top disk is painted brown. The black slot is Photoshopped on top of the prototype windscreen to demonstrate the location of the requested slot on the disk.

QUESTION: U bolts, aluminum 3/4" diameter, what is the radius of the bend?

ANSWER: 3/4"/2=3/8". These U bolts are used to secure the screen to the ground with bent rebar stakes, so tolerance is not very significant.

QUESTION: What is the length of the U BOLT EXTENSION passed the 41" screen dimension?

ANSWER: About 2" is fine, again tolerances for my rebar stakes are forgiving.

QUESTION: Does all material be USA made?

ANSWER: Buy American Act requires that a product be manufactured in the U.S. of more than

50 percent U.S. parts to be considered Made in USA for government procurement purposes. It requires public agencies to procure supplies that were manufactured in the United States, substantially all from domestic components, subject to exceptions for nonavailability of domestic products. Please identify the place of manufacturer if parts are not made in America.

QUESTION: Is it possible to extend the quote due date?

ANSWER: The due date will not be extended unless no quote is received.
