About this file
This document provides details on government furnished equipment and laboratory resources available to support seismic monitoring networks operated by the U.S. Geological Survey. It lists specific digitizers, seismometers, accelerometers, magnetometers, infrasound sensors, and weather stations installed at monitoring stations in the Intermountain West, Central United States, and Alaska regions. Communications equipment utilized includes Hughes VSAT satellites, cell modems, and local internet. Field engineers are provided work benches, tools, electronics equipment, and consumable supplies for maintenance and repairs. The laboratory is equipped for metal cutting, grinding, sanding, welding, painting, bending, drilling, milling, punching, and other fabrication using equipment such as band saws, grinders, drill presses, lathes, mills, shears, and plasma cutters.
The related federal contract opportunity is a re-compete for seismic data acquisition and analysis services to support the U.S. Geological Survey. The solicitation number is 140G0221R0003 for the SAF ASL SERVICES RE-COMPETE opportunity issued by the Department of the Interior US Geological Survey Office of Acquisitions and Grants.

GFE seismic equipment
In the IU and IC networks, seismic stations are equipped with Q330HR digitizers (typically 2 per site), and installed seismometers can include Streckeisen STS-1, STS-2, STS-2.5, STS-5, STS-6A, Nanometrics T-120, T-240, T360
(borehole, posthole, or vault version).
In the CU network, seismic stations are equipped with Q330HR digitizers (typically 1 per site), and installed seismometers can include Streckeisen STS-2, STS-2.5, or a STS-5-360 (at one site).
In the US and N4 network, seismic stations are equipped with Q330SR digitizers (typically 1 per site), and installed seismometers can include Streckeisen STS-2, STS-2.5, Nanometrics T-120, T-240, or Guralp CMG-3T.
In the IU,IC,CU, and US networks, all stations also have strong motion accelerometers (typically a Kinemetrics
Episensor). 25% of the N4 network stations also have strong motion accelerometers.
In the IU and CU networks, 7 stations have magnetometers, 14 stations have infrasound sensors, and 21 stations have weather stations.
GFE communications equipment
The majority of US network sites utilize Hughes VSAT (HN7700 or HN9460) for communication. Other US network communications protocols include local internet or cell modem.
The majority of the N4 network utilizes cell modem communication.
The CU network utilized Hughes VSAT (HX90 and HX200).
GFE field engineer equipment/tools
The government provides work benches and tools for all field engineers to complete field maintenance tasks. This includes all tools of the trad including hand tools, multi-meters, electronics tools, laptops, and any consumable supplies needed such as tape, wire, connectors, solder, etc.
