About this file
This document outlines the salient characteristics for a current profiling system for discharge measurements. The system must include a portable, self-contained, five-beam acoustic Doppler current profiler no larger than 9.5" x 2.2" and weighing less than 1.0 lb. It must have bottom tracking from 0.1 to 6 m, operate at 3 MHz, and include a vertical beam. The system shall include batteries, charger, cables, a GNSS rover smart antenna, tilt sensors, compass, and a ruggedized transport case. A flotation platform no larger than 2' x 3' and weighing less than 11 lbs is required along with Bluetooth connectivity up to 100 m. The system must be waterproof with an IP67 rating, measure velocities from +/- 5.0 m/s with 0.001 m/s resolution, sample at 1 Hz, and profile from 0.1 to 6 m with accuracy of 1% or better. It should operate from -5 to 45°C on internal batteries for up to 7 hours and measure 128 cells from 2.5-30 cm.
The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation 140G0124Q0021 from the Department of Interior's US Geological Survey Office of Acquisitions and Grants to procure a current profiling system meeting the outlined salient characteristics.
