Comments From Site Visit
1. USFWS will be able to share shapefiles with the selected contractor to facilitate site layout.
2. If the selected contractor coordinates with USFWS with sufficient lead time prior to the planting, the Government Plant Inspectors may be available to stake out planting areas to facilitate site layout.
3. If the bidder would like to utilize an alternative access route besides those specified in the Restoration Plan, they will need to include that in their submitted workplan. Any proposed changes to the access routes in the Restoration Plan will require review and approval by USFWS.
4. Anticipated coordination between USFWS (and USFWS partners) and the selected contractor will be greater during the summer planting of the Gulf Blue Stem due to the presence of nesting shorebirds.
5. Certain fence posts may be removed to allow for truck and UTV access to the project site. Fence post removal will need to be coordinated with USFWS and Eglin Air Force Base. Removal and reinstallation of fence posts for site access will need to be done as close in time to the planting efforts as possible to reduce the likelihood of sensitive dune areas being disturbed by the public.
6. Some areas of the dunes contain abandoned encampments and there may still be some unauthorized human occupation in other areas of the dunes. The selected bidders should be aware of this concern and adjust their plans for equipment storage and staging accordingly.
