About this file

This document is an amendment to a solicitation for the SFIR 3(1)_INDIAN BEND BRIDGE project. The amendment provides responses to questions from offerors regarding technical requirements for hollow steel pipe piles, tie rods between precast girders, and grout details. It clarifies that all piles must be driven to minimum tip elevations and reach bearing capacity before being filled with structural concrete to the abutment elevations. For grout between precast girders, a backer rod width of 1-3/4 inches and grout key width of 1-3/8 inches is acceptable even if less space remains between the bottom of girders. No other terms or conditions were changed in the amendment.

Answer: All piles will be driven to minimum tip elevation (South Abutment - 5466.785, North

Abutment- 5466.5) and reach bearing capacity as well. Then filled with Class A(AE) structural concrete. Please see sheet 10 of 57 that shown the abutment elevations (South Abutment

-5579.785, North Abutment- 5579.50) and the pile being 9" into the abutment from these elevations(Sheet 12 of 57). This is a good volume to use for structural concrete. Air is required in all structural concrete mixes. Please see

Table 552-2 of the FP14. It requires 4.5-7.5 percent.

Re: Tie Rod, Page 17 of 57

Question: The Pile Caps per design are sloping to both sides of Centerline. Our Pre-cast Supplier has noticed that it is not feasible to thread the

Tie Rod through the girders as designed. Please provide Clarification.

Answer: We have a history of installing girders that are tied together with these tie rods, on a normal crown, with no issues during installation.

If there was any issues it was not brought to our attention and the Contractor resolved it with the manufacture during installation.

Re: Keyway Grout Detail - Page 18 of 57

Question: Drawing Typical Section : Due to

Design of the Cap , the bridge slopes each direction from centerline. Our Pre-cast Supplier has laid out the drawings and determined that between Girder D and Girder E, the bottom of the

Girders will have no space between the girders and the Joint at the top will be 7/8" wide. The

Backer Rod will have to 1 3/4" wide and the grout key 1 3/8 " . Will this be acceptable?

Answer: This is acceptable.

2. All other terms and conditions remain unchanged.
