STATEMENT OF REQUIREMENTS
BACKGROUND
The Organic Chemical Measurement Science Group within the Chemical Sciences Division (CSD) of the
Material Measurement Laboratory, National Institute of Standards and Technology is responsible for chemical measurements leading to the certification of a large number of food, botanical, environmental, and forensic
Standard Reference Materials (SRMs). Currently, the Organic Chemical Measurement Science Group is developing analytical methods and candidate reference materials for important chemical species and contaminants in natural product samples including botanical dietary supplements and Cannabis (hemp and marijuana) materials.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF WORK
For the purposes of conducting diffuse reflectance and diffuse transmittance spectroscopic measurements of
Cannabis plant materials and extracts in the infrared spectral region, Group 646.02 requires an integrating sphere reflectance accessory for use on a Bruker Vertex-70 FTIR spectrometer system located on the NIST Gaithersburg campus. The integrating sphere accessory will be used to conduct diffuse reflectance and diffuse transmittance measurements on plant materials and extracts. The integrating sphere accessory will be used primarily for investigations in the near-infrared spectral region, 10000 to 4000 cm-1 (1000 nm to 2,500 nm). A gold-coated integrating sphere surface is required to permit future extended use in the mid-infrared spectral region from 4000 to 400 cm-1.
SPECIFICATIONS
The Contractor shall provide one integrating sphere accessory that meets the following minimum technical requirements.
• The integrating sphere shall have a gold-coated surface with a minimum internal diameter of 75 mm
• The integrating sphere accessory shall be capable of measuring diffuse reflectance in a downward illumination geometry to accommodate sampling solid and powder samples without requiring an optical window.
• The integrating sphere accessory shall have a sample position in the input beam path to permit diffuse transmittance measurements.
• The integrating sphere accessory shall be compatible with a Bruker Vertex-70 FTIR spectrometer system operating under Opus 7.2 on a Windows 7 PC.
• The integrating sphere accessory shall fit within the instrument sample compartment. The sample compartment door is not required to close when the accessory is in place.
• The integrating sphere accessory shall come with a sample compartment base plate compatible with Vertex series spectrometers. Any additional mounting fixtures required to position the integrating sphere accessory at the correct horizontal and vertical position to accommodate the standard beam path in the sample compartment of a Bruker Vertex-70 FTIR spectrometer system must be provided.
• Spectral coverage of the supplied detector shall be, at a minimum, 10000 to 4000 cm-1 (1000 nm to 2,500 nm). Suitable detectors include indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs), with or without thermo-electric cooling, and liquid-nitrogen cooled mercury-cadmium-telluride (MCT) detectors. If more than one detector is available that meets these requirements they should be listed as optional line items.
• The minimum element size of the provided detector shall be 2 mm x 2 mm
• The supplied detector shall be compatible with a Bruker Vertex-70 FTIR spectrometer. All required cabling and additional interface electronics, including a detector interface if necessary, shall be provided.
• Shall include a User Manual describing how to install and operate the accessory.
WARRANTY: The Contractor shall include at least a one (1) year warranty on all parts, materials and labor for the accessory.
INSTALLATION AND TRAINING
No installation is required. No training is be required beyond what is provided in the User Manual.
DELIVERABLES
Description Quantity Due Date
Integrating Sphere Accessory 1 60 days after award.
User Manual 1 60 days after award
INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE
Inspection, installation and acceptance will be performed by the NIST TPOC after the integrating sphere accessory is delivered to verify that the it operates to specifications.
