Questions and Answers for Western Minnesota WRE Weed Control Project
Question #1:
Is there a posted/advertised “fixed not to exceed” contract price for us to enter on the quote form?
Answer #1:
If you are referring to B.2.1, you don’t need to enter anything in this field. Just fill out the pricing schedule under B.2.2.
Question #2:
Are 2000 acres to be treated each year or spread over 3-years?
Answer #2:
2,000 acres to be treated over 3 years.
Question #3:
Could you provide an example of an easement map to be given to contractors for spraying?
Answer #3:
The easement map will only show the easement boundary with a legal description and if needed, directions to the site. The contractor will be responsible for scouting the site, identifying the noxious and/or invasive weeds, and spraying them with the appropriate chemical. See attached sample map at end of Q&A.
Question #4:
When a site is selected to be sprayed for noxious weeds – is the entire site used for acreage calculations or only a percentage of the site based on weed cover? Ex. If a treatment site is 40 acres (and there is assumed 5% thistle coverage) is the billable total 40 acres or 2 acres?
Answer #4:
The entire easement will be scouted. Then sprayed based on what’s needed. The entire 40 acres would be billed.
Question #5:
Could you provide a list of noxious weeds to be treated?
Answer #5:
Per C.5.2 of the document: Examples of weeds to be sprayed include but are not limited to the following: Canada Thistle, Leafy Spurge, Spotted Knapweed, and Wild Parsnip. Other species may be determined by NRCS on a site by site basis, including woody vegetation.
Question #6:
Approximately, how many sites will be selected each year for treatment?
Answer #6:
Approximately 6 – 12 sites a year will be selected.
Question #7:
Can a flail mower be used in lieu of a rotary mower?
Answer #7:
Yes
Question #8:
Will the contractor be required to contact/coordinate with each site landowner for each visit?
Answer #8:
The contractor will be required to call the landowner prior to spraying but will not be required to coordinate with them as far as timing.
Question #9:
Will the seeding areas end up being the areas we spray and/or mow? If so, will there be stumps in areas where site prep is required?
Answer #9:
Examples of seeding areas could be a spot with bad thistles that never established properly and would need to be sprayed first. Or an area that had dirt work and never established. There will not be stumps in the seeding area.
Question #10:
Is there any need for cover crop/seed carrier?
Answer #10:
No. The bidder should have a drill capable of seeding native grasses/forbs.
Question #11:
Is there any need for erosion control on the seeding areas?
Answer #11:
No
