QUESTIONS DURING SOLICITATION PHASE:

During the solicitation phase several questions were raised. Each question and answer is provided below:

1. Are there any records on the well?

Answer: No, we have not been able to locate any records.

2. Can the existing hydrants be cut and capped?

Answer: Yes, in order to make grade and drainage the new hydrants will be relocated. Existing hydrants can be cut 12” below grade (or at existing waterline depth, whichever is less), capped, and backfilled.

3. Is there a block out on the buildings where the water and utilities enter?

Answer: Yes. This is clarified in the amended planset.

4. Is the entire set up designed to self drain?

Answer: Yes, all buildings and hydrant will drain to the main line which is sloped to drain to the treatment building.

5. The bid schedule has 6 hydrants but only 4 are shown on plans. Are there to be 6 and if so where are the other 2 going to be?

Answer: Sheet 4 is missing the hydrant at the stock tank and the guard station. Will be edited to match sheet 3.

6. Sheet 2 of the plans states we are putting a new well house in but it looks like we are taking out the old well house and putting a new treatment building in at about the same general vicinity but not over the well . Is this correct?

Answer: Correct. Will remove mention of wellhouse and standardize treatment building verbiage.

7. Sheet 10 of the plans Hydrant side view shows the 1 inch HDPE water line slope to drain. Is this just from the hydrant back to the main line or the entire line. We would need more detail to bid this I believe if the main line needs sloped to drain. Perhaps a profile of the line. If the intent is to blow it out with compressed air it is probably not an issue.

Answer: Line is 1” for entirety. New proposed alignment will drain if trenched at constant depth.

8. If you plan on still using the woodford model S4 hydrants it appears to me you would have to use the 1 foot bury model if you are trying to keep the line sloped to drain and a 3 foot bury on the main line. The 2 foot bury (37 5/8 deep plus a T or 90 degree fitting under it ) would put the bottom too low to drain with 3 foot deep line if that is the objective. I can send a diagram if you need it.

Answer: (This is a good catch. these model descriptions are misleading and bury depth does not indicate the full depth of the supply line) The 2’ bury model will be used and staked in locations to allow sloped drainage to main waterline. Trench for this secondary line may be slightly deeper than the 36” minimum at these locations but can be offset by raising both hydrant and aggregate pad above existing grade as indicated by the CO(R).

a. Further clarification from the pre-bid meeting: Self-draining hydrants are specified for the purpose of hydrant use in the shoulder season prior to winterization of the distribution system.

9. It looks like the all the back fill would have to be imported if you do not want 6 inch or bigger rock in the back fill. Would you consider large rock above the pipe bedding and would bedding and or fill be available from the Murdi pit?

Answer: Trench detail on sheet 11 will be edited to remove 6” maximum and increase bedding cover by 3”. Bedding will be available from the Murdi pit.

10. If Option B (new well) is chosen will Option A (pump) also be added or do those costs need to be included in Option B?

Answer: If Option B is included, Option A will also be included.
