Solar Review for:

Aldo Leopold Building 790 E Beckwith Ave

Missoula, MT 59801

ALDO LEOPOLD BUILDIING

Assumptions for Design:

• Tilt angle design of 15 Degrees o Maximum solar potential while limiting interrow shading between rows of modules

4’ necessary spacing between rows to avoid interrow shading.

• Module design size. 60 Cell 280 Watts, standard sizing of 39” x 65”

• Re-roof construction and access to framing members

• 4 Foot roof perimeter setback (2012 IFC Section 605.11)

• All figures solar production or otherwise assume shade obstructions as they are

Summary:

Hypothetical Maximum Solar Potential: (Given overall footprint of building)

• 68 Modules @ 280 Watts, o Capacity 19.04 KW o Production 21,424 KWH Annually

Solar Potential with current roof top mechanical equipment

• 38 Modules @ 280 Watts, o Capacity 10.64 KW o Production 11,517 KWH Annually

Solar Potential with Re-Roof Design, and re-location of air handling equipment

• 59 Modules @ 280 Watts o Capacity 16.52 KW o Production 17,891 KWH Annually

Shading and Obstructions:

• It is Solar Montana’s recommendation to remove the two trees in the South-Eastern corner of the building.

o Shading accounts for 53% Loss in Power Production (See attached solar production reports)

• It is also Solar Montana’s recommendation to remove the single tree located in the South-western corner of the building o Shading accounts for 32% Loss in Power Production (see attached solar production reports)

Roofing and Installation Design:

• Contingent on re-roof construction:

o Install Snap N Rack 6-hole Heavy Duty 12” standoff kit onto roof sheeting o Adhere to framing members (every 6’) o Field flash each standoff during re-roof.

o Install low profile tilt module system. (See Snap N Rack Installation Manual) o Install angle 15 Degrees

See attached sketches and install manuals for more information

*Standard Module rail, cut to 17” sections for tilt up legs.

Inverter Design and Back-feed:

• Utilize Solar Edge (1) 14.4 KW 208 Three Phase Inverter (See product specs and Install manual for more information)

• Utilize (59) Solar Edge P300 Power Optimizers. (See product specs and Install manual for more information)

• String design:

o 2 at 20 Modules o 1 at 19 modules o Transition strings from PV wire 10 GA into 12 GA THWN in roof top junction box

• Provide three circuits from roof top junction box to inverter mounted adjacent to service on the exterior. *Note, the inverter can be mounted in the interior.

• A new load center will be required for solar back-feed. OCPD required is 50 AMP o Reference NEC 705.12(D) For load panel sizing.

United States Forest Service Building

Solar Montana was asked to inspect the roof and make recommendations for potential solar size and roof mounting system:

Based on foot print and available unobstructed areas we estimate an installation of (127) 60

Cell Solar Modules at a wattage of 280.

• (127) 280 Watt modules

• Capacity 35.56 KW

• Annual Production 36,360 KWH

Based on the age and type of roof we recommend a ballasted roof mount system

Solar Montana recommends removing the tree in the South West corner of the building due to substantial shade loss of 20%. (see USFS_SolarPathfinderReport for more information)
