Q&A
What’s the window for fisheries? Is the project during that time?
The in-stream fisheries work window is August 1 – October 15. This happens to coincide with low stream flow.
Is the intent to divert the water during construction?
Yes, diverting and dewatering the stream during construction will be necessary; the contractor is responsible for submitting a dewatering and erosion control plan.
Do we have records of water flow?
Records are mentioned in the plans, including estimates for 100-year storm and 2-year storm; sheet 3 of drawings. The dewatering flows will need to accommodate base flow plus isolated summer showers.
When are the bids due back?
Bids close on August 12.
Is there a deadline on questions?
No.
What about a 20% bid bond?
Is a 20% bid bond required?
Yes and has been added to the REV1 Statement of Work in FBO on 8/6/19
Are the rock classifications on the plans based on import?
The contract assume rock will be imported. Much of the material may be available onsite from excavated material. Special standards 204 and 648 go into more detail, and a guide to sizes and classifications is on sheet 8.
How many miles up Brush Creek is the site?
It’s on East Brush Creek Road; the site is south of Eagle approximately 15 miles.
What are the clearing limits?
Clearing limits Note 2 of Sheet 4 of 10: Clearing limits shall be 10’ beyond toes of slope and limits of channel work unless otherwise shown or directed by the CO. If the dewatering is proposed outside of the clearing limits, the proposal may be considered.
How wide is the site?
The structure width is just around 32 feet. The base of footings are 8.5 feet wide. See sheets 6 and 7 of the plans.
What’s the footing height?
See Sheets 6 & 7; under 6 feet.
Is any further revegetation needed beyond what’s on the plans?
Only if areas are disturbed outside of the clearing limits. In general, no. Any willows that need to be removed may be dug up by the roots, set aside and replanted when the project is finished.
Can we make it wider than the plans say in order to dewater the area through the middle of the creek?
A proposal can always be made. This would be a design change that would need to be re-engineered and approved. All quantities would have to be adjusted to accommodate such a change.
How much will it cost?
FAR 36.204 Disclosure of the Magnitude of Construction Projects. Between $100k and $250k.
Is there a viable road detour around the site?
There is a high-clearance road, Hat Creek Road, off of Eagle-Thomasville Road near Crooked Creek Pass;
not suitable for passenger vehicles. Should emergency services be needed, it would be most likely that a helicopter would have to be called in regardless of a road closure due to construction.
Is there requisite notice time for road closure?
The Holy Cross District will be coordinating the closure with the stakeholders and conversation will start shortly.
Can we work weekends to get it finished in time?
Yes, as long as workers are paid overtime; anything over 40 hours/week.
Will the excavated material be suitable for reuse?
Suitable material may be used for embankment according to Special Contract Requirements 204.03.
Onsite material may be used for structural backfill according to Special Contract Requirements 208.02.
Streambed material may be obtained on-site or from a commercial source per Special Contract
Requirements 648.02.
Where was the reference reach for what the streambed should look like?
This information is back in the office, in this case, the reference reach is likely and outside the road influence.
