The following document is a response to various questions posed at the site visit and via email pertaining to the Canjilon Lakes Vault Toilet project.

1) Can either lake water or local Municipal Water Association water be used for construction?

Response: Per contract Statement of Work, section C.2.f, it is stated that “Electricity and Water are NOT available at any site. Contractor must provide their own.” If the contractor wishes to contact the local water authority in Canjilon, they may do so, but any agreements with third parties will be the sole responsibility of the contractor. Contractor must provide water and electricity as needed at no additional cost to the Federal Government.

2) Are waddles required for erosion control?

Response: Erosion control measures are an incidental requirement for any/all US Forest service contracts. Erosion control measures shall be taken at no additional cost to the Federal Government and shall not be included in contractors bid. For example, if a waddle is the necessary measure for a particular portion of the project, contract shall be prepared to utilize them at no additional cost.

3) How many inches over ground level should they top off with soil?

Response: Per contract Statement of Work, section C.2.d, it is stated that “Contractor shall regrade, backfill, compact, and finally, recontour the final ground surface so that the ground is crowned to avoid pooling in that area. Backfill and recontouring is incidental to this contract.” For BIDDING PURPOSES contractor shall bid for a 3” crown/hump to ensure pooling does not occur.

4) Who will survey the toilet locations prior to toilet installation? Will we be given elevations for each toilet?

Response: The US Forest Service engineering staff will survey the site prior to Vault Toilet excavation. This will be inclusive of building staking and finish elevations. Stakes will be placed and offsets will be provided to the contractor prior to excavation.

5) Will a staging area be provided.

Response: Yes, COR will correspond with contractor and flag an area for staging at the appropriate time.

6) What is the source of fill material?

Response: Per the drawings sheet C-01 General Note 4, no fill material is available on site. The Forest Service will provide and deliver the fill material to each Vault Toilet Location. The Contractor shall coordinate with the COR or authorized representative for the quantity of fill material needed at each Vault Toilet Location.
