Statement of Work: Bison Corral Construction

Repair, replacement and construction of new corrals and fence is required at the USDA APHIS VS bison quarantine facility at 772 Hwy 89 S Gardiner MT.

Background:

The facility houses between 40 and 100 bison at any given time and the bison are required to be tested for quarantine procedures. This testing requires adequate handling facilities to meet the testing and pen requirements of the Bovine Brucellosis Uniform Methods and Rules, 2003. The facility has been used for such activity for 10 years and is in need of updates and repairs.

Specifications:

Work required will include:

1) Construct approximately 300 feet of 5 ft. 14 ga woven wire fence on current wood post line and install a 16 foot wide gate for pen division. Remove and shift current fence line to improve bison line of sight for corral gate to Pen A. (site1) Construct 2 at least 12 foot wide gates for pen division. (site 2)

2) Handling Facility: Construct alley and bison tub with slam latch gate for moving animals into chute. Construct, gates and dividing pens at least 7 foot tall with solid steel sheeted panels, posts will be pipe at least 3.5” diameter and ¼” wall. A list of materials on hand is provided below. Drill pipe may be specified in the bid as an alternate material, however, drill pipe must be inspected/approved by POC prior to installation. Excess scale, debris, coated or lined pipe will not be approved.

3) Handling Facility: Re-build with pipe/panel as described above, all corral perimeters. All gates will be 12” above ground to accommodate winter snow/ice conditions, and will have automatic latching mechanisms. All gate posts will be 6” diameter, in concrete or have arch for support to accommodate solid sheeted gate weight, arches must be at least 10’ high to accommodate a skid steer.

4) Handling Facility: Install Parasal hydraulic chute (provided) in alley. Build roof/cover for chute, can use pipe or minimum 8” wood post and plywood/shingle roof.

5) Handling Facility: Build catwalks (indicated with blue hash marks) between Pens B and C and from Pen B to chute area. Catwalks will be constructed 30” wide from steel grate, with 42” guard rail on both sides where installed over the corral panels. Guard rails will also have a midrail at approx. 21” from tread. Vertical support will be 20” apart. Stairs to access catwalks will be of same materials with handrails on open side, can be 50-70% slope, parallel to panels, minimum 18” tread width and open risers. Steps that terminate inside a bison holding pen will require a small spring latch gate to keep bison off steps.

6) RE-build load out, new gates and re-configure gates to accommodate loading a stock trailer. Small (aprox. 20’) catwalk on side of panels required. (site 3)

7) Construct approximately 200 feet of 6 foot panel fence to split and reduce current corral size in N end of facility. (site 4)* Panels are provided for this portion of fence, in addition to materials below.

Delivery and Order Requirements:

Due to winter weather conditions, we expect construction to be intermittent with final delivery due April 15, 2019 *Number 7 listed above is secondary requirement, 1-6 are priority.
