Additional Questions Received After Pre-bid Meeting

Does the Forest Service have a disposal site for the Directional Drilling fluid (bentonite and water mixture)?

There is nothing in the contract for disposal on site for the drilling fluid, so they should haul it away.

There is a drain being used by the HVAC system in the Gatehouse Basement, will that need the same set up as the drain in the Guest House that needs a sump and pump?

Yes, it will need the same set up as the Guest House and is addressed in this amendment.

Can the period of performance be extended to July of 2019?

Due to scheduled use, the period of performance can be extended until 06/15/2019.

Which buildings are feeding each lift station?

Buildings feeding the lift stations are clearly marked on the drawings.

What is the size of each feed?

Size of feeding is up to the contractor as they are to follow the NEC.

Are the feeders to be copper or aluminum?

Feeds are to be as directed by the NEC and can be either copper or aluminum, as long as they meet the

NEC.

Are they in conduit or direct bury cable?

As shown on the drawings, all feeds are to be in conduit.

I’m considering offering either Weil Pump Company or Bell & Gossett products for the submersible pumps that are based on Myers. Will either be acceptable if they meet the conditions specified?

You may submit an “equal product” for this item if you wish, but it will not be reviewed by the government at this point in the process. Review Specification Section 013300 – Submittal Procedures 1.2 A. for the details on requirements for submitting an “approved equal” product and prepare your bid accordingly.

Manufacturer Qualifications: A qualified manufacturer in the specific business and manufacture of lift station pumps and assemblies that can produce the entire specified pump station assemblies (control panels, rail systems, floats and pumps) as a whole. Individual manufactures of these components will not be accepted unless Contractor demonstrates a compilation of different manufactures products will perform as well as the system specified.

Concern about precisely hitting the 5.3% slope from the drain to the maid's cabin. Especially if there are any rocks of larger size. Would you be open to changing this line to open cut in order to guarantee the slope? Or do you have any other recommendations?

The prints were specifically designed and drawn to use directional boring to the Maid’s Cabin due to the extremely deep cut (11’+), large trees, driveways, utilities, etc. in this area. The ground disturbance would be horrific and then to try and get it back to pre-construction condition would be impossible. The slope is set so there is some wiggle room since they are not going into the Maid’s Cabin. The idea is to get as close as possible for future extension of the sewer line into the basement. With a 5.3% slope, it can be off a little here and there because the sewage is still going to go downhill and not get clogged. It is recommended that contractors follow the directions on the drawings.
